Don't have to make a mountain out of a mole hill. There are plenty of drivers (even women) who survive in the winter with rwd vehicles. Getting a 4wd it not a bad idea but there is easier ways. Give her a chance to get use to the 4runner, hell shes only driven it a handful of times in bad weather.
This is what I'd do to prep her...Get the best snow tires available, Nokian comes to mind. Put some weight in the back, don't be shy, 400-500lbs back there will significantly improve rear wheel traction. Take her to an empty icy parking lot and practice emergency manuvers. Those things should help keep her going straight, but its still up to her to drive according to the conditions.
Yeah i definitely like that idea. Next snow fall Ill take her to parking lot and let her get the feel of controlled wheel spin. Get her confidence up. that’s will help a lot cause I think she’s just scared more than anything
