Changed the oil yesterday(so I thought) and something wasn't right. So pulled the old girl into the garage tonight and realized I had way too much oil. I actually drained the transmission fluid and overfilled the oil.

It was yesterday and didn't do too much driving. No oil spewing anywhere. You guys think I did any damage?

Yes I am an idiot. Hopefully caught this mistake in time.

Mistakes happen buddy. Best thing you can do is drain some engine oil and top off the tranny oil. If it goes into and out of gear like it did before, shifts
Ike it normally did before. You should be good. This isnt something thats happened to me personally, but it seems like common sence to me. Just, make sure it dont happen again lol.
 
At least you didn't do this....

Drain the oil.
Add 5 quarts oil to the transmission.
A 1 gallon antifreeze to the engine!

This was my friends first attempt at changing his own oil. I offered to help him, but he insisted that he knew better because he was a year older and had gotten his license before me. Apparently my dad's extensive mechanical knowledge that he had imparted into me was of no consequence to him. It was then that I truly realized my friend was an idiot!

Glad I didn't do what your friend did!!!!!! I would have been pissed.
 
should be around 4-5qts on a 4wd. i think it was 2.5 with a 2wd.

What color was your trans fluid?? was it brown enough to be mistaken for motor oil???
 
Thanks. Ad yes. It was brown like oil instead of red.

You guys recommend just a drain and fill? Or a flush and fill?
 
Lol did that to my first Camaro, but caught it before I drove anywhere... I vote for REPEATED drain and fills over the course of the next month.
 
If brown, definitely flush and fill, and check for contamination at the notorious trans cooler connection at the bottom of the radiator.
 
Usually overfilling engine oil isn't a big deal. The issue is that the crankshaft will froth the oil and air bubbles don't lubricate well. Usually more of an issue with high rpm engines. Just drain some out and it should be fine.
 
Crap that really sucks! You might have gotten off lucky if nothing is acting funny. I was doing an oil change of a friends runner years ago and dumper the trans too so I can say I know how easy it is to do if you aren't paying enough attention. That's why I always check the oil on the stick after lol! Though I caught mine before I got out from underneath it lol.
 
Personally I would do a regular oil change with the exception being over 10 quarts draining out now.

Then simply add however many quarts you drained from the tranny. I wouldn't flush it but rather drain and fill every 10k or so. I drained exactly 5 quarts out when I pulled my truck up on my ramps.

There are a few threads around discussing why not to flush especially with dark tranny fluids. It would be good to change the tranny filter at some point as well.
