Stutter while starting

So I looked around a bit for this, and I didn't find anything on it. If there's a thread with this info in it already, can someone post a link?

I have an 89 4Runner, 22RE. Recently when I've been starting, it's hesitating a little bit and then firing up. So it's turning over just fine, but it sounds like it's not getting gas after it starts. This morning it was the worst, it started and then shut off, I had to start it and give it gas in order for it to start.

And I don't think that it's battery related at all, it cranks just fine and it really seems to happy to start, it just doesn't have fuel or something... Bad fuel pump?

or regulator. or tps misadjusted. or throttle body idle screw set too low. or dirty MAF. or clogged fuel filter. or dirty injectors that are dripping.

Could be a ton of other things too, need more info on the issue. Does it run better once its warmed up? Any codes?

No problems running, once it warms up it's more responsive, but other than that, there aren't any issues while driving. Just starting.

No codes, just the fuel light, but I haven't had time to switch the bulb back to the incandescent bulb yet.

One other unusual thing, I've been getting awful fuel milage, not sure if that is connected. I was getting 16-18mpg, now I'm getting 13. I was thinking that the engine might not be getting warm enough, as I have the fan coming on pretty early, but it seems like it's getting plenty warm.

Then its either cold start injector or regulator. Mine did the same thing and I replaced the regulator, it completely fixed the problem of hard starting.

Does it help if you just turn the key to start for a second, stop, then start it again? I figured out how to make it start by doing that, worked every time, but I was tired of having to start, stop, start every time I wanted to drive the truck.

I may have one of those for sale too! Not sure if its the same one as this, or if its different than the 5MGE:

Most everything on the 5M is the same as the 22re actually, at least for the sensors.

Awesome! Glad you happen to be selling the things that I'm breaking haha. From what I remember that looks similar to mine, I'll double check though.
