sub box question

ok so i've built my box and test fit the sub and everything in it, but now it comes time to cover it. i made it out of 3/4" MDF and i was wondering what you guys all thought i should cover it with. A Rhino bed liner kind of thing? Carpet? Vinyl? Pleather type of stuff? Just curious to see what you guys think. here are some pics of the work in progress and how it fits nicely under the cargo cover. i tried to measure the angle the back seats make with the floor so i could build the box accordingly and it would fit flush with the back of the seats, i was off by a couple of dregees but w/e. lol. let me know what you think =) i bought a 12" Kicker sub and its going to be powered by a 400 watt Kicker ZX mono amp i'm going to put under the passenger seat.

my dad nail gunning while i was trying to take a pic. lol

Looks pretty good. I would go with vinyl. It can be tricky sometimes though.

Is that like a 1ft box? Looks kind of small for a 12".

How are you going to secure the box?

Is the sub going on the top or the back? My box looks a little bigger for my 10". At least my RF sits way back into the box so it had to have quite a bit of room left around the hole cut for the sub.

Looks good though.

Looks good nice job. It does look kinda small though.

Oh and just do you know there is a nickel in the back of your truck in the 3rd picture.

:)

i assume the sub is going to fire down, and use the floor as a baffle. We used to use that trick in the Jeep Wranglers because the soft tops make them suck for bass output.

It does look a little on the small side, could just be the pics, but you did remember to subtract the size of the driver displacement from the internal size of the box right?

Finally on to your question, i would just do a nice matched carpet. Vinyl, or any thing smooth like that is going to show the seems on a square box. Vinyl is great for trip plates or cover plates, not very good for something square like that.

ya i did take in to consider the interior dimensions and it has 1.15 cubic ft of interior volume. believe it or not the base is actually 23" long. lol. because of the angled sides that i used to attempt to match the angle of the backseat it added quite a bit of volume to the 14" x 8" square I have in the middle of my "box"

there is a custom car tuner right next to my dads cabinet shop and i asked him what i should wrap it with and he said to go to walmart and find something there. he said thats where they get all of their stuff and i must say they have made some very impressive systems so i'm prolly going to cruise over there today and see if i can find any nice material.

That is a nice set up. I see how it fits in now. Well protected for when you toss stuff in the back too.

ya exatly. and if you look in the first pic, there is a little black circle thing to the left of the box and tape measure and i've drilled a hole and istalled it on the back right corner and that'll allow me to simply disconnect the wire from my amp at that point so i can just take out my box if/when i need to really fill up my trunk with stuff. since its a downward facing box it's going to deflect off the floor and then radiate outward so it should sound even deeper and stuff than just a standard box w/ the same sub would sound. Now i just gotta wrap the box and then wire it and i'm good to go =)

thats a good idea for a box i have a double hatchback style box in the back, its one of the premade ones from kicker with 2 12"s and i had to take my cargo cover out because it wouldnt fit so you are lucky subs and something to caver them so no one can peek inside and decide to steal em. that happened to my first set

ya i'd be really pissed if someone did that to mine! thats why i constructed it so that it'll fit under the cargo cover. my box is actually only 11" tall. lol
