i got some new speakers and soon installed stereo deck by bestbuy. i wanna get some subwoofers, but i am going to get them from some guy. i looked around the net and came up with nothing, so my question is how do i gain access to the stereo so i can hook up my subs? thanks

PS if you need more help let me know, i just went on leave from being a geek squad auto tech(basically worked in the bay on cars). So if you run into any issue let me know, i cant count how many 4runner systems we've done. If you have any skills at all, you can save a few hundred dollars and do it yourself.

Many people have problems with Best Buy installing stuff. I would do the head unit yourself and if you feel confident try the sub and amp install.

If you don't want to do the sub and amp install look for a car audio place other than Best Buy or Circuit City.

Get an install kit from Crutchfield and d it yourself...

well i got the subs which are 2 tens, not bad since they were free. he just gave them to me, no questions ask. idunno why? anyway all i need is a new stereo and an amp. any ideas? oh yeah, where am i suppose to put the amp, shoudl i put it under the driver seat?

you either want to mount the amp onto the back of the box or onto the back of your rear seats

yeah, i guesss ill hook it up to the box. i have to still wait to get a deck for the car though. is there some way to put the wires under the flooring so they are not exposed on top?

my amp is under my driver seat and it works perfect. now i can just push the seat all the way forward and i can get to all the amp adjustments.

and yea, its pretty simple, just get a crutchfield kit and do it yourself

Yes, you can run the wires under the trim pieces. You'll want to run your power wire by itself to avoid interference.

only reason i did under the drivers seat is so that its out of the way when i put the seats down and pull the sub out. all i have to do is disconnect 2 wires from the sub, and thats it. i sleep in my car every so often when im camping and such, so i dont want an amp, or a bunch of wires digging into my back

That seems like a good setup for your needs. I never take mine out. I think it weights like ~125 lbs.

How do you sleep in your 4runner? It doesn't seem large enough.

well i have a rockford 10 p3 and ported box, and that whole setup is only like 30 pounds, and thats all i need to move..

and that box i can just put up in the drivers or passengers seat, but that little thing pushes out enough power for me

and i put the seats down, and sleep at an angle. and even then i cant 100% strech out. then again im only 5'9''

on the box is a bad idea ... electronic components don't usually like the vibration. As far as under a seat, just make sure you don't take it in for detailing where they shampoo the carpet, and watch for water in the rain.

my personal favorite location is what i did in a customers sequoia a while back ....

yes thats the roof ... up and out of the way

That's an interesting location. How does the head liner support all that weight?

Are any holes drilled into it that would make it hard for resell?

i did a full car PC w/ full system in that, so worrying about interior damage really wasn't a big concern, that was the least intrusive of that job. As far as holding them up i welded braces to the roof beams, and the amps are mounted to the braces.

that shows things w/ out the headliner in place.

hardest part about it was working above my head w/ that sub amp ... that thing would get kinda heavy after a while!

ahahah so back to a probable solution . . . mounting your amp onto the back of the box is fine, the vibrations are not going to harm your amp, and like the others said, if you don't plan on moving the subs or laying your seats down you can mount to the back of the rear seats. If you are going to be using the full amount of cargo space there, then i would suggest mounting on the box or like silverbullet said, under your seat.

Mount your amp to your headliner, and eventually it will sag, it will hurt your resale, it will constantly be catching your eye in your rear view mirror, and it will just look odd.

spoken like someone who hasn't been doing car audio that long.

Mounting the amp to the sub box will cause extra wear, which is probably why most amp manufacturers will void your warranty if they find out about it. Also makes it a lot easier for a thief.

as far as mounting to the headliner .. nobody suggested EVER mounting it to a headliner. a headliner wouldn't last long enough to wire the amp. As for seeing them in the review, most amps won't sit any lower than the sunroof assembly does in the front half of the vehicle.

one other choice would be to mount it inside the little the pocket in the back (depending on the size of amp you choose) then you could actually add a terminal jack to the rear plastic to plug you box in when you wanted it, and have a very factory clean look when its removed.
