Today I successfully swapped my 3 button key for a folding switchblade flip key.

Really simple swap. You will need to transfer over the button/battery pod from your 3 button key. Should just pop out.
You will also need to swap over the transponder. Its a small black rectangular piece with a slight angle on one side that is glued in place. I didnt have the patience to scrape and pry it out of the 3 button key so I cut open my grey valet key and took the transponder. Should just pop right out once you cut it open. Take the transponder and pop it into the flip key. There should be a slot for it which is obvious. The transponder didnt sit snug so I put some electrical tape on one side to fill the tiny gap to make it a tight fit.
Make sure the buttons on the flip key are in the same position as your 3 button key. The buttons came in the wrong place but they come off easily so you can put them in the correct spot.
Tip: there were some excess pieces of plastic on the inside that got in the way of the buttons pad. Just took a blade and sawed them off easily for a better fit.
As a side note. The buttons didnt feel as firm as I wanted. So I took some adhesive foam tape, cut them into tiny squares and stuck them behind where the buttons were on the pod. This allowed less wiggle room once it was all sealed up. Now they have a firmer/tighter feel when pressed and sit in place more firmly.
Tip: be careful with the spring, you could probably snap it if installed incorrectly. This part was the trickiest out of the whole swap but just be patient. The videos below should help.
From what I hear, some places won't cut automotive keys without a hassle. Luckily my local hardware store (Canadian Tire) did it without any questions.
