suggestion for a sticky thread?

Should we have a must read section for new members to cut down clutter threads?

sense we get a lot of people coming in asking about chips and how to increase the MPG of the vehicle and then never logging in again i suggest that we make a sticky for new member check in with a introduction about asking questions that can be solved by a Google search.

let me know if a specific question bothers you like for me i hate repeating myself to newbies about chips!!!

There is no fix for a person who doesn't want to search. A simple google search for any one of those stupid questions will give the answer that they need.

You can't fix stupid!

I would suggest that when someone posts a dumb thread that we just ignore it or tell them to search.
 
What SV said. The people who come in asking about chips aren't the type to search or read stickies anyway. And "newbie" threads are generally fairly snobby and dismissive of the newcomers, what with the assumption that ALL newbies are ignorant twunts that don't know how to use the search function - we get lots of new posters that know how to search just fine, let's stay welcoming and open and hopefully help drive traffic up a little.
 
All of us are newbies at one time or another. I consider myself a newbie.. Sometimes its hard to answer specific questions by searching. I like getting opinions to specific questions I have and try to put my input when I can. i feel like I have learned a ton in the short time I have been here thanks to most of the guys on here being welcoming and sharing there opinions.
 
Searching is a lost art.....that never seems to have caught on in the first place it seems.
These are the only CHIPS I need!!

I am so far in agreeance.... the forum is here for interaction and finding solutions to problems, spreading ideas etc.... all the information is there and has been forever. We are all newbs, searching is a great idea but doesn't ALWAYS turn up the results you'd hoped for, whereas if you post a thread, more than likely somebody with hands on experience while chin in and chip in. BV, are you thinking more along the lines of a YT setup? That or pirate, & good lord let's not go there! T4R is user friendly in setup as well as members, let the other boards scare em off, we can train em properly here in "the parking lot"
 
i would hate for this to turn into another "yota tech or pirate 4x4" forum. i mean, everyone there (no offence to any of you who might use those sites) assumes everyone is a freakin mechanic and when you ask a serious question they badger you and give you **** for it. they treat noobs (like myself) like we arnt even on the same level as they are. honestly thats why im still on this forum, everyone here seemed pretty cool and didnt really give me to much **** about stupid questions.

i think that we should give a warm loving invite to whoever wants to be on this forum, unless of course they start arguments and what not. then they can GTFO. just my thought, i had a good first experiences on here and i would want others to have the same.

and in some peoples defense when they go to look something up on google they might not be wording things right or something small that just pisses you off, plus if they ask questions here (like the chip thing) they dont have to learn the hard way, they get good advice from people instead of getting scammed.
 
/\ I agree with this guy/\ I'm a member of Pirate. It's a great resource of info but I swear everyone on there is just sitting around waiting to flame you and cuss you out for fun. Even when you get a tech response there it turns into a battle between all the posters.
 
I would agree with previous posters. This is a friendly forum. I know i've come in here and asked some 'stupid' questions but the responses i get are always helpful. Also when someone gets on asking 'what's this tick noise' or something and they get 3 or 4 perspectives that each may say it's a different thing, but each of the 3 or 4 agree that it could be any number of things but also they say 'look here for xyz and that means that xyz is bad' It's nice, friendly, and helpful. I think we should keep it that way. just my .02
 
I think that a sticky with some links to some sites with lots of good info and a couple good sources for basic parts. This could cut down on the clutter and steer people that need basic help in the right direction. With the number of well put together write ups on the basics and suppliers like engnbldr it should be pretty simple to compile.
 
There is no such thing as a stupid question as long as it is an honest one just rude puffed up people who think they are too good to answer questions they feel are beneath them.

I was thinking a bit more basic than that. Most of the topic in there aren't the simple questions that have been popping up lately. I don't see a lot of threads on H4 light conversions so...

Things like this 4Runner FAQ which resulted from 10 seconds of google searching might eliminate some things and maybe help those that are very green when it come to 4Runners/turning wrenches.
 
maybe im missing something because that thread has a guide to h4 conversion as well as basic repair and troubleshooting in it.
