Suggestion for that hitch receiver plug

With my second plug (the first disappeared) I made two modifications:

1) I xacto'ed two slits in the proper place in the plug to allow a long tie wrap to go through receiver holes of the locking pin to secure. Yes, I have to cut the tie wrap to remove the plug but for the 5-10 times a year that I tow, I'll just replace the tie wrap since these are cheap. Now the plug can't fall out or easily "disappear".

2) Using a sliver sharpie I highlighted the raised logo. [It matches my body color.] Trivial but only takes a minute.

Both are good ideas.
Now to get the Sharpie before Staples runs out of stock...
(but then again, that would be one way to get all the T4Rs in one place.)

Good idea. Mine has fallen out twice already. I just put the trailer hitch in the hole, even though I don't tow anything.

It is an excellent device for testing one's pain tolerance when you bang your shin on it.

It is nice to stand on when you need to reach the roof of the car during washing or cleaning.

Why not just drill a hole through it and use the hitch pin?

Stronger than a zip tie, and you can take it on and off more easily.

If you look at this plug in the receiver you will see why one can't just drill a hole the size of the hitch pin through the plug.

Jeff, nice to see that you got your bumper all fixed up from that rear-ender and your runner is as good as new.

jeober, those are great ideas. It's so simple yet effective. I think I will rip that idea and do something similar.

What if someone helps you cut the tie wrap and make it disappear? It should be fairly easy to cut the tie wrap right?

If someone wants it bad enough they WILL get it, this includes the vehicle itself.

This mod just keeps it from walking off or just falling out.

hahahahahah....I always walk into it and peolpe hate it. Its hilarious to watch reactions and its annoying when I do it.

Rear Bumper

Jeff, nice to see that you got your bumper all fixed up from that rear-ender and your runner is as good as new.

Props to you on your memory skills, sir! Yes, I did have to get the back of my 4Runner replaced. It needed a new bumper cover and the little "lower corner" thingie that is on the left side behind the wheel - and meets up with the left side of the bumper cover.

I took it to the local stealership (after the insurance company of the at-fault driver sent me the $390 check) and had it repaired. Problem is that they did not quite do it correctly. First of all, they used the wrong color - which really, really, really showed up when viewing the car from the left side....but was less visible from the rear. It was far different from the rest of the car!

Anyway, there was also some dirt that got into the paint when it was drying (outside on the dirt parking lot, perhaps?) and the finish was rough to the touch. The body shop manager took a look at it and agreed wholeheartedly with me and they re-did the whole thing. Of course, they gave me a 2003 Camry to drive as a "loaner" car for another week.

It looked 200% better when I finally picked it up, and I was basically satisfied. Of course, I would have been going ballistic if they screwed it up a second time. With it being a leased vehicle, I wanted to be sure that all OEM parts were used and that any deficiencies would be on them and not me.

But anyway, that photo above was taken yesterday (Memorial Day) after I washed and cleaned my baby. Dayum! She looks good, huh?

Rear End Damage


Here are a few shots of the relatively minor damage to the rear end (back in February) that required the replacement & repainting of the bumper cover and the lower left-hand plastic piece that attaches to it.

Sorry about the photos being so big, folks. But anyway, that helps to show the detail of what needed fixing.

I am now missing my "receiver plug" again, but figure that the trailer hitch does a nice job of filling it and will help to "protect" my 4Runner if someone hits the back of it.

Anyway, I love this forum!!!!
