Suggestion on New Tires?

I have a 2005 4Runner, 27K miles. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and drive about 50-60 miles a day. I will need new tires soon. Does anyone have professional advice on what would be a great tire? Safety is my main concern.

There are lots of threads on the site dealing with tires. You'd do yourself a favor by reading through them first so you can ask specific questions.

Yeah, Ive read most of them, I am not an expert when it comes to tires. I was hoping some of the people would have some ideas and I could research some options. I need to know what is the best tire for someone like me who drives a great deal. Hopefully someone drives as much as I do or more and could give their 2cents about their own experience.

For mainly highway driving, the Michelin Cross Terrains have great reviews. For some off-roading the Bridgestone Dueler Revos and Goodyear Wrangler Silentarmor are well-liked. All are pricey, but apparently worth it.

I'm also looking at the Pirelli Scorpion ATRs, which are designed for mild off-roading and good on-road handling. They're relatively new, however, so I haven't seen much useful feedback.

Go to www.tirerack.com and look at all the tires they have to fit your vehicle --- then pick ones for the conditions you drive most in --- SF probably rain and damp roads --- but little snow and ice. A knobby tread will be noisy and eat more gas than a smoother tread --- which also tends to be better in wet. Read some of the customer evals but take them with a grain of salt. The OEM Dunlops really have bad ratings --- but they are an inexpensive tire --- 1/2 price of a Michelin.

I also drive about the same in the bay area daily.

I recently changed out my stock wheels & tires.

After looking at several options I decided on going with 20 inch wheels wearing Toyo tires.

I personally went with the Toyo Proxes S/T since my T4R is a 2wd.

I was leaning towards the Toyo Open Country A/T or M/T series at first, which is an all around tire.

Dunlop oems with 72k miles.

My Dunlop oem tires just wouldn't wear out....I wanted them to because I signed up for "Tires for Life" in which I had to go to the Toyota dealer for oil changes and tire rotations every 5k....and they charge a premium over the local Jiffy Lube.

Finally I got Toyota to put on new ones.

Yeah but at least the dealer actually changes the oil and filter --- unlike "iffy-lube" and other quickie places.

Do you really assert that Jiffy Lube doesn't change the oil or do it properly?

Seems like it would be way too risky for them to short cut or cheat customers.

Yikes! Thanks for the video link re Jiffy Lube rip offs.

I knew they always suggest stuff you don't really need....so almost always I just say no thank you.....but I figured the corporate owners of the franchise had some kind of quality check to stop outright theft from customers.

I just had a transmission flush on an old Explorer with 95k miles on it. They showed me the hoses with fluid flowing in and out. I hope they really did something.
