I have a 1990 T4R SR5 V6 w/ 5 speed manual, about 350K on the clock and a practically brand new replacement engine. It came with 33x12.50R15LT Mud Terrain ProComp tires, rims to match. Here we have mostly mud, not much rock (in the Central Valley of California, I am a water district manager and have to be able to go more or less anywhere, none of the company trucks has anything like the OR capability of my T4R <G>). Well, the Pro-Comps are fairly noisy on the highway past 60 mph, and of course they don't get the best gas mileage, but they do get me anywhere I want to go, which is fine. I suppose they have almost another year before I will actually have to replace them, so I am trying to think ahead. AFAIK that particular tire is not made any more, so I'm trying to zero in on what I might use to replace them. I'm a scientist with some engineering background, but by no means a tire expert, so would appreciate reasons for any suggestions <G>. This is my first adventure with oversize tires, other than the 16.00x16 sand-floater balloons that were on my Dodge Power Wagon company truck in Saudi Arabia (in 1970). For 10 out of the 15 years I spent in Saudi Arabia my own vehicle was a basic Range Rover on which I always ran standard-sized Michelin M+S tires (with tubes) and in spite of heat and sharp rocks and lots of desert hunting trips always got at least 60K miles from a set. The Pro-Comps weren't new when I bought this car, they are holding up pretty well but I can see the end coming (tread wear, no cracks, rubber is still fine). FWIW I rotate and balance regularly.
