Tire reccomendation please

Hi, I have this lift kit installed: PRO-TRUCK LIFT SYSTEM (Stage 1) - TOYOTA 4Runner Base

And my OEM tires are due for replacement. I'm having a kid in february and I have an hour drive on country roads to get to the hospital, so I am thinking it might be a good idea to get fresh rubber on there just in case the weather is bad that day. Preferably something that also does well for off-roading. The OEM tires are mall-crawlers and while they do great on-road, they are completely worthless off-road.

The truck is basically a spare vehicle so treadwear rating is irrelevant and so is on-road ride quality (as long as it's not complete torture). I live out in the country and I have trails out on my property so I would like to get something with more off-road focus.

What size / model tires would you guys suggest for going up in size (but safely within the contraints of my lift) and have better mud / snow capability?

I would highly recommend the Goodyear Duratrac. It it more aggressive than the normal all terrain and it's not loud and extreme like mud terrains. It has great siping so it holds to wet and snowy roads really well. It also accepts studs if that is something you cared about in winter.

BFG AT KO2s are also a good choice. There are tons of opinions and answers.
 
With that Eibach lift you should be able to go up one tire size without having to do chopping. You may need to trim the front fender liners a bit.

So 265/70/17 is a 31.6" tire and would work well for you.

You may need aftermarket Upper Control Arms to offset the caster issue. It depends, your alignment shop will let you know.
 
I am willing to do some mild trimming of the fender liners.

I am not willing to get new control arms. I just replaced the entire suspension and they are brand new.

Looking at a calculator, it appears this size:

245/75/17

Would work, and is probably on the conservative end, however it's hard for me to say for sure. I have very little experience with this stuff.

I'm a HUGE fan of the Cooper ST MAXX as they have proven themselves SO well on my 4runner and my Tundra. I have a 2.5" lift and opted for a tall/skinny size in 255/80/17 and they are amazing on snow, mud, gravel/rocky terrain as WELL as in-town driving. if you're hoping to retain factory setting on everything, I recommend at least a one-tire-size up to 265/70/17 and you will not have any issues with rubbing. I'm a fan of falken wildpeaks at3w. You can probably step up to 265/70r17 without issue or 285/70r17 with some minor work. Did well for me on and off road and had great inclement weather performance. I took them on road in the snow, and snow wheeling without really any complaints.
 
All good recommendations on here... and at the end of the day all are good tires.

I have the mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT's and they have been excellent so far.

Advantages over other tires mentioned:
-3ply sidewall
-Severe service Snow Rated 3pmsf

I have a 3 front/2 rear lift run Toyo Open Country AT II tires in 255/80r17 (skinny 33 inch tires). Put on about 30k miles and they're still quiet. Driving in the rain was fine when tires were new but is now starting to get slightly slippery-- nothing extreme. I've offroaded plenty with them and they're great off road.

The newer version (AT3) is 3-Peak/Snow Rated.

I went with 255's instead of the more common 285's to keep my unsprung weight down, not have to do a body mount chop and not have to do other trimming.
 
I like the cooper ST Maxx's but also the Falken Wildpeaks. I think the Falkens are a quieter tire and that's what I'm running now. Very happy with them.
 
I have that exact lift, and I went with 255/80r17 Falken Wildpeak AT3Ws. Really good tires, not super loud, and lighter than a cooper ST MAXX or BF Goodrich KO2.

You never mentioned which wheel size you have which makes a big difference in your options size wise. Only tires I would stay away from are Goodyears. They will say a tire is "3 peak mountain snowflake" but only certain sizes within that line are. Its misleading, and has lead to some issues for me and my local crew.
 
Thanks for all the info guys. I ended up going with the General Grabber AT/X in 265/70/17.

There were a decent handful of tires on backorder and these seemed to have the best winter performance out of the available bunch.

285/70/17 load range C Falken Wildpeaks weigh 61.3 lbs

Falken wildpeak is a great tire but heavy and it got a low rating on fuel efficiency compared to other ATs. That's not why we buy these tires but the weight is an issue.
 
For those of you running 255/80/17, does the spare still fit underneath? I am currently on 255/75/17 BFG KO2 (like the tires a lot, especially that they are load range C, have almost 50k on them) but I am thinking about going a size up the next time. Don't have a rear bumper at the moment so spare needs to go under.
 
Nitto Trail Grappler M/T 265/70r17. I have a 2 inch lift.
These tire are exceptional on gravel, mud and snow. Quiet on the highway.

I have heard a 255/80 is the biggest that can fit under there.
 
I'm running KO2's on my 2Runner. No 4WD and yet I've never been stuck. Then again I'm not really one to play in deep mud, but for flooded fields and wet trails I've never had an issue. The traction isn't bad on snow either.

Very pleased. Also I didn't think about the fact that the height would go up. Figured it out very quick when I pulled up to my mailbox to check the mail.
