suggestions on front seat mount fail

I have just discovered in my son's 96 T4R Ltd. that the front left bolt mount on the driver seat appears to have rusted away and bolt pulled through. Nut is still on the bolt.

Any suggestions on a fix for the pull through? I have not looked underneath to see if it could be easily patched. It seems that I would have to cut away the rusted metal and weld in a new mount. It looks like the mount area is a complex geometry, not just a flat plate.

You need to remove the seat and pull the carpet up. The nut is spot welded to the plate. Take a grind wheel or dremel and saw the spot welds off and weld a new nut on. Mine snapped off like this and I have been driving with 3 seat bolts. I will fix this soon and that is my plan of attack.

mine did the same thing i took it to a body shop and they fixed it for like 40 bucks, now the other bolt on the front is pulled through i just said screw it.

I ran a bolt through the floor, problem solved. The passenger side's not looking too good, but is still holding. So far.

the front drivers side nut ripped off mine. took some weird angle and i got it welded back on. been good ever since. I know Brian2sun had his rip out too and he ran a long bolt through the floor

You need to tell you sone to take it easy in the front seats. The back folds down LOL

I'm joining the club

Mine's toast too. I bought my T4R last month and the first thing I did was replace the front seats with good condition junkyard ones, the ones that were in there were ripped and extremely dirty/greasy. Come to find out, the front left bolt was done. :ybrick:

Living with it for the time being, but I may just put a bolt through the floor indstead of paying someone to weld it. Haven't decided yet. For now, I just try not to lean back too hard and stress out the right front bolt so I don't have an even worse problem on my hands.

The front left bolt on my driver seat did the same thing. I drilled a hole in the side of the raised piece that the nut is welded to and just put a washer then the nut on the bolt. So far, so good. I have no clue what I will do if the front right breaks off though.

The same here... when I swapped my old seats for the SR5 buckets, my left front bolt ripped through. I need to have it fixed. I should consult my body shop for a quick fix.

I have the frame member that i can cut out and sell. I was thinking $25 for each. These are spot welded to the floor pan. When you get it, you will have to drill out the spot welds on this and on yours and bolt it on to your floor.

Thanks for that offer but that is more effort than I can undertake at this time.

Thanks very much for the pic though, that shows me what I am up against.

At this point I think I can cut a slot in the back surface of that cross member, in line with the bolt hole so I can get a larger nut and washer in. Another thought is to drill three holes in a circle around the mounting nut hole, slide in a disc of 1/2 inch plate, center drilled and tapped for the seat bolt, then use the three holes to tack weld the disc in place.

Same thing happened to me. We tried to get it as close as possible, then welded it back on.

My brackets on the seat itself is pretty rusty.. part of it has chipped off, but fortunately I haven't ran into this problem yet!

Let me drill out the spot welds and see what this looks like. If It removes easily, and is not deformed, I will gladly sell it.

I have to cut the grass today but i should be able to get to it by this afternoon.

Once it is removed I will take a picture of it and post it.

Something to think about is ... What happens in a collision and the seat is not secured. I'd like to know that my seat belt that attaches to the seat is going to work.

Necro-bump. But, my first repair has failed. I am debating on just ripping out that support and welding in some square stock in it's place and fabbing up some new mounts. I will lose rear heat (in San Diego, haha!) but I am not worried about that. Also, I will be able to get rid of the tilt backwards that plagues the seating position.

That's an idea. My truck has some 4th Gen Honda Prelude seats in it that I installed. Nice and sporty. Wrong color, but whatever.

Tomorrow I plan on looking at some 2003 Acura TL-S seats that should match my interior and be a lot more comfortable. That being said, I don't want to deal with this situation again and I want it do be done! So, that's why I want to explore some truly custom seat mounts and something that will last. :ak472:
