So I have a 96 SR5 4x4 with I assume to be mostly stock and original suspension parts. Now here is my question..... I work for Jeep and my wife like the new Wrangler Unlimited (4 door). We took one for a weekend and the ride is much quieter, smoother and generally more pleasant. Now aside from 20 years of techno is there a way to get my old runner to ride better. I have 31x10.50x15 BFG ATs with about 15k on them. I'm at the point of do I buy a new Jeep with Warranty and all the fixin's, including a payment or do I start putting money into the 4runner and hope to get another 5+ years out of it. Ugh, I hate these crossroad decisions. Help me keep my wife happy, lol

New shocks, springs, bushings will get you better ride. In that order of impact too.

I was thinking that, my rear springs are shot. Will fresh bushings help a lot? Thanks for the help.

You can get tacoma progressive springs with Bilstein shocks to the front. It simply rides like a luxuary car. Some taco's came with progressive springs. Sprry I dont have a part number but it came in 01 to 03 models I think.

Do you want to use it Offroad or just make it highway friendly? If you're willing to spend 40k? on a jeep, what can you spend on the 4Runner?

This will be 90% road driven, I'd like a mild lift. If I can achive a nice ride and a bit of lift all will be good. Plus I'd like to be a bit different (not a Jeep like everyone else)

Toyota parts are good too ya know. They ride real smooth and no matter what you put on there, you'll gain a little "lift" because your rear springs are sagging after all the years.

Are you going to get the Rubicon package? If so...buy the Jeep. It will be much more capable out of the box.....though as owner of 2 Chryslers currently....I wouldn't claim the reliability will be anywhere near as good as the Toyota.
