I don't believe every people or society on earth has a right to be protected by US might, enforced with the bloodshed and sacrafice of US citizenry.

The rest of the world agrees as well which is why no one else is rushing in.

The people in the middle east need to solve their own problems. Fight or die or both. It is their problem. Not something my family should spill blood over.

I am just sick of our policy of providing arms to Iraqi troops who drop them amd run like cowards. Anyone remembe how ISIS got all of its weapons?

Like I said, they can fight or die or both but it is not on the US to go into these foreign lands anymore and waste our resources.

I completely agree. I've always thought that you must work from the inside out. It's hard to justify the feeding of starving children say in another country when your own neighbors children are also starving.

But that doesn't mean you and I cannot still have some humanity and concern for that starving child in that country.

Honestly I don't think we as a society should feel any burden, shame or negative anything about the fact that we, America cannot fix, rebuild, create broken shattered societies in the middle East.

I'm re-watching HBO's John Adams right now. The founding fathers never supported this crap.

Fixing other people's societies? That never should have been an American goal in the first place.

Once you accept that THEIR culture and societies are the way they are because of THEIR culture and societal choices, it becomes much easier to accept the fact that we should stay out of their business and keep them out of ours.

Not total isolation but a huge shift from right now.

Stop trying to fix the societies & cultures in the middle East!

They don't want us there, they do not share our values, they do not want our form of democracy. Wake up America.

You are wrong friend to state the USA is the egg that destabilized the middle east.

Yes we contributed by overthrowing Saddam but we did not lay the egg of middle east religious and ethnic division.

Are you saying that the US has not influenced the current path the mid east is on? You may want to take a second or third look at that. ISIS gets inspiration from those that see America as a threat or enemy.....why is this? We(the collective) in order to justify our goal and actions to achieve those goals always create a villain so we can act. They are now using our own tactics to "villianize" us. The only two reasons we are there is oil and Israel. We also contributed to the rise of Saddam...........the overthrow was the chicken.

I definitely think everyone should stay away from anything taking about "all Muslims" or whatever.

The best way of describing what you are probably referring to would be "non-secular Sharia adherent Muslims" which makes up the large majority of the whole religion in the world but a tiny fraction within the US.

You Muslim neighbor who thinks secularism is fine, democracy is great, prays as often or little as he feels like, and is integrated into Western society except for perhaps he doesn't eat pork. That man or women (who does not cover up) is NOT a "non-secular Sharia adherent Muslim"

They are someone who is free to interpret their religion as they choose because America is a secular democracy based on secular values.

I believe what you are describing above is the equivalent of a "christian" who goes to church on easter sunday and has a bible on their bookshelf...

I would argue that both are not really muslims or christians. they are nominal at best...

A "real" one will be far more active and the level of activity in one particular religion has some real adverse effects for those around them...

There is no requirement in the Bible stated by Jesus or God for Christians to go to "a church".

People are free to do as they wish. And yes I believe people who go to church twice a year are still Christians.

I'm one badass Christian then.

But without adherents going to a physical Church, how will the Vatican collect their weekly dues? I mean, the boss doesn't wear expensive shoes anymore but those robes are still pretty pricey.

Its been said before, but it seems like the one thing that keeps most people away from God, is Religion. Take that man-made construct out of the way, and maybe people would realize they are all of them looking toward the same destination when death approaches. Then again, there is no money to be made in that idea...

In my family, both of my parents were actively practicing Christians. Once I became old enough to question my religion, they both left the "choice" to me. I am a believer but I think it must be a choice. To the thread topic.....any zealot is dangerous.
