Sulfur smell when accelerating hard

Hi guys,
I have an 05 Limited with about 70K on the clock. I have noticed that whenever I push the car hard on acceleration there would be a funny smell...kind of like sulfur (rotten eggs). I have noticed this since the car was new. I just had the tranny fluid changed at 60K miles and it still does this.
Does anyone else have this problem? Anyone know where it's coming from? Any way to remedy this?
I don't notice any performance issues, just a little embarrassing, especially when I have people in the car.
Thanks in advance.

A kid I used to know had the exact same problem in his car. It smelled AWFUL to say the least. I think you need to buy a new catalytic converter

Thanks for the reply guys. I'll take it in and have them replace the cats. It's still under warranty.
Now...is this a warranty issue? I mean, is there anything "wrong" with the cats?
My stealership always tries to get out of doing warranty work. Pain in the arse!

You will find a full discussion of this problem HERE

My dealer said when they upped the engine hp/torque between the '04 and '05 years they didn't modify the cats to support the change and that causes them to fail quicker.

You can reduce the smell by changing the gas you put in the car but to eliminate the smell I had to have my cats replaced.

They told me the newer cats they put on are better suited for the new engines. Could be BS but all I know is regardless of the gas I use now I have no smells :)

i have 06 i have that problem and they replaced my cats and still has the problem every now then but i guess its normal but yea that sulfur smell is annoying it started when i didnt even have 5k on mine i only have 14k on mine now and still have the problem

I emptied my gas tank by driving around. LOL THEN i start putting 91 octane (Shell) along with BG 44K. Ever since, no more funky smell.

cats replaced

That link was right on. The dealer will most likely tell you to change brand & grade of gas. Toyota does'nt recommend anything higher than 87 octane. Its the cats, had both of them replaced problem resolved.good luck.
