Sulfur Smell

Had the new cats put on under the emission warranty and it has alleviated the problem. No more nasty smell. If you are still under your emission warranty take your rig in and have them replace the cats before the warranty goes out! So glad i did it. I can actually enjoy my rig with the rear window down now!

When I got my Baja Rack it changed airflow enough that I can ride with my back window down without any sulfur smell anymore. 99% off the time anyways.

How long is the emissions warranty? I saw one here there's a TSB for it but I checked with my local dealer and they say there isn't

I want to say 60k miles, but don't quote me on that. Sometimes you gotta print out the TSB and take it to the dealer. Mine said there wasn't one either, then I pulled it out of my back pocket and he was like, "Oh yeah, that one." D!kc. Just another reason why I can't stand stealerships.

I took mine to the dealer and told them about the bad smell,and he said to me when the cats go bad usually the check engine comes on! IS THAT TRUE?:lightsaber:

When cats go bad, they are NO LONGER converting harmful exhaust into non-harmful exhaust.

The job of your post- cat O2 sensors is to determine if your cats are working. The dealer is correct. If a CAT becomes clogged or otherwise inoperable, you would likely get check engine, as the system will be reading variances from the norm.

Chemical Content of the fuel can impact it. Driving Style. Sulfur as a smell is a by product of the chemical reaction. One issue that I think is causing you to notice it, is the location of the pipe. With the rear window DOWN, it creates a tunnel and just pulls it in.

Funny dealer told me the same thing and i pulled it out of my pocket and she literally read the paper and said...."ohhhhh that TSB. Yeah thats a discretionary repair. It'll be up to management." Manager came out and said we will take care of it.

For me, i do not have the smell any more at all. I have had the back window down trying to get it to smell and its 85% better. Plus i have two brand new cats at 60k miles. Two less i have to worry about later down the road. Works for me.

Reroute your exhaust tip to the side and that smell will be gone!
