Summer heat is nothing to play with.....I know first hand...

My wife and I got back in town after the 4th weekend and I decided to go ahead and do the yard. After edging, weed-eating, cutting and blowing, I decided to wash both our cars. I was already buring up at this point and hadn't taken in that much water, because I was to into the work and didn't feel like going inside. I did my truck first and got it all dried and in the garage. About half way through her car I started feeling really sick, so I did my best to finish it up and get it dried. After all that I came inside and went to my office bathroom, downstairs, because I thought I was going to puke. Next thing I know, she is standing over me freaking out. She helped me get in the tub, clothes and all, then she poored several bowls of ice in the tub. I couldn't even speak for about 20 minutes.......anyway, everything seems to be fine after sleeping like a rock. I am absolutely drained, but ok. It was very scary.

I know we are all adults and know about taking it easy, but don't over do it and as all our mothers have said, drink plenty of fluids.

Yeah, sounds like you had a case of heat exhaustion or dehydration.

I've seen it too around here. I play paintball in the summer and a couple of weeks ago a guy had a bad case of heat stroke. It was very hot and humid outside and I guess the guy didn't get enough fluids. Since the paintball facility is kind of out of the way, they called the ambulance just in case. I didn't see it first hand, but apparently the guy just collapsed and was in a minor siezure just shivvering. Hope your feeling better now. Take it easy in your old age ;):

I know how you feel Momo, glad you are doing better. I did some work in my yard, and washed my cars as well. My uncle passed away of heat related causes because he didn't hidrate properly. Now everytime I'm outside I force myself to drink water even if I'm not thirsty.

By the way I"m 34 and still feel like 21.

Take it easy momo - I don't wanna have to go looking for another mod so soon :D When I cut my lawn in the Fla heat I usually go through an entire jug of Gatorade in the process - plus I wear my swimsuit so I can jump in the pool to cool down after mowing the front before I tackle the back, and then I need to jump in again when I'm done. Even then Mrs. GG will comment on how red my face is and tell me to quit overdoing it :p

Definitely not a fun thing to play with. We all feel that we are invincible and that we can ignore the summer heat, but it isn't true. My brother and I were washing my 4Runner in the 90 degree heat too. We didn't have anything as extreme as you though. Water is definitely a good thing to carry with you when working in the extreme heat. I hope you are feeling better momo.

MOMO,

Glad you are ok.. I had the same problem a few years back when I worked for a golf course... Very bad heat stroke. I quit my job asap.

pace yourself you just did what would take me 2 months:D

I once suffered from heat stroke or dehydration maybe both, I dug a 2 foot deep trench about 20 feet long and put a sewer in the front of the driveway, took me about 2 weeks and I did it during a heat spell, it was almost done and I went outside, usually I worked when the sun dropped but since I just woke up and my father had poured some cement where he should not have he wanted me to remove it before is completely hardened, well 5 minutes into it I got dizzy and could not stand up straight, felt like I was gonna blackout, I managed to get in the house but was not able to get water so I sat in the chair closest to the door and put my head between my knees and rocked back and forth, I eventually got some ice water but that was so hard to do cause my head was spinning.

I never want to experience that feeling again, at 1 point I thought my heart was gonna stop, I thought I was gonna stop breathing, that was the 1st time I felt messed up, the flu is a cake walk;): took me an entire day to get back on track.

On top of the that I tore both my bicepts from overtraining, combine digging through rock and then going to the gym for 2 hours, that hurt to but was not that bad even though I could boil water with the heat coming off my elbows.

After the sewer was in we then put in 3, 6 foot blue spruce pine trees and the heat and humidity combined with the sun made those things heavier then they should have been but I had plenty of water for that.
