Adding items to my todo list as they are suggested so I have them in a single post for easy printing. Not sure if all will get done this summer, but at least I'll know what's in the queue.
Ive got a 99ltd w about 150k on the odo. I'm starting to plan my spring/summer work to hopefully get another 150k out of her and am looking for some suggestions on preventative maintenance to keep her running. Other than an occasional dirt road, field and snow days she stays on pavement and rarely gets put into 4wd (maybe half doz times a year). I occasionally help my dad tow his 22ft boat to put in/out of water. Maybe 4 times a year and only tow about 20 miles max per trip.
Things I've already done:
TB, WP, idler, belts etc last summer around 145k
LBJs w NAPA parts last summer
Steering rack bushings last summer
Tranny cooler w B&M 70264 (I think that's the #, the bigger one)
Cyl 2,4,6 injectors (only #4 was bad but did the others as I was already in there)
I'm doing the rear drum cylinders this weekend (yes I'm sure it's not the axle seals)
PS flush & coolant flush with TB work.
Plugs & wires, fuel filter, MAF clean 2 summers ago when I bought it @135k.
To do list:
Fix clock spring
Fix door locks (none of them work) hopefully it is just the yellow clip deal.
1,3,5 injectors
KYB shocks/struts all around. She is stock and Billies weren't in the budget. I bought them last summer, but haven't gotten around to it.
Sway bar bushings front/back. Has new links in the front, but they are cheap autozone ones. I have some rear squeak and am hoping new bushings + shocks will take care of excessive body roll.
Steering Rack guide bushing (while I have the sway bar off for bushings)
New muffler, current one has a small rust hole
Replace rear heater lines w hose. The OEM hard lines rusted through so I just eliminated them up in the bay with a jumper hose. As I have 2 baby's under 3 the rear heat will be nice.
Tranny flush and filter
Brake fluid flush
Diff fluid change
Grease Driveshafts
Diff breather extension
What else should I do?
Obviously brakes as needed
A lift would be nice but not gonna happen as long as it's a toddler toter and the 99 talls don't seem to be sagging. I can clear 265/75/16s (I think that's the size, whatever one size up from stock is. I think they equal out to 32's)
Rust proofing? I don't have bad rust on the underside (that I can see), but was thinking of hosing her down real good, maybe even bust out the wheel. Then spraying used oil everywhere via garden sprayer. Thoughts? How expensive/ difficult is a POR-15 job to do myself?
Gas gauge doesn't work, but not sure if it is worth addressing until fuel pump goes out.
I see that rear axle seals are just a matter of time? Is that something I should just go ahead and do before they start leaking and mess up the bearings? I'm stuck between "if it ain't broke don't fix it" vs putting off an easy job and making it a hard job if I have to rebuild axles.
Other than routine maintenance are there any other things to do in advance that can save a lot of headache if they are done before going out? Obviously it's hard to predict and anything "could" be replaced, but I'm looking for things like the tranny cooler, Lbjs or axle seals that are a common item.
