Sunroof glass shattered while driving

I haven't replaced mine, but when I looked into it the parts was kind of scared off by the price, and wasn't sure exactly what I would need. Looking at the parts diagram there is a separate frame you can buy, but it looks like it is part of the glass assembly. In any case I wasn't thrilled about the idea of spending $450 for the part. Mine isn't horrible yet and doesn't leak so I will probably wait until I am forced to fix it.

That's a new one to me...

Unfortunately my normal advice of "glue it shut and don't touch it" won't work here. I have never heard of them spontaneously shattering like that... it has to be a twisted frame combined with road bumps issue, I really can't think of another reason.

Also have we confirmed that all shattered units are factory? Seems like a lot of aftermarket sunroofs on the vehicles in this thread... This is why I hate those things...

ive read about it more than a few times on here.

im thinking its a heat issue. improperly tempered/treated glass to begin with.

I was kinda sad when the 4runner I was buying used didn't have the sun roof, but did had the spoiler. When I was driving the integra which has been my college and work commute car, the sunroof is now cracked and pretty much in danger of shattering on my fragile head especially my head is almost touching the roof.
