Sunroof rattle is killing me

I had this issue big time in my 2003. I too could make it stop by pushing up the back of the sunroof with my hand. At the suggestion of others here I first tried to lube it with spray on white lithium grease. Simply coat both side rails of the sunroof. I did it pretty heavily and then wiped off the excess. My problem was instantly gone and it has lasted for about three months now. This is a simple and cheap solution that you should try before taking more costly measures.

I have had that rattle for a couple of years. It has gotten to the point where it is bugging the hell out of me. i have checked out the rod and it is as tight as can be, so i know it isn't that. It is almost like it is part of the assembly the glass is attached to, but can only see so much of it with the roof closed, and none when it is opened. Rockwall, yours sounds a lot like my rattle. Did you ever pin point the rattle before you sprayed it?

Momo, I feel your pain. My truck is one of my most prized possessions and I almost got to a point of not wanting to drive it. I think that your rattle sounds exactly like mine. I never did pinpoint it, but read the post about wiping it down and spraying the silicone. I decided that it couldn't hurt to try it and used white lithium grease. That was around early December and the noise has not come back. Obviously the lubricant prevents something from rattling. When it comes back I will just spray it again. I really hope this works for you too. Good luck!

I got it all wiped down and was about to take it out for a drive, but my wife had to use my truck before I got a chance to. I am about to go for a drive to see. If that doesn't fix it i will shoot some grease in there. Did you just spray it all along the silver tracks, on both sides?

I don't know what cleaning has to do with such an annoying rattle. I opened up the sunroof and coated both sides of the rails quite heavily with the grease. The only negative was that my interior really stunk for a couple days. Like I said this completely solved the rattle. I don't open mine very much and am satisfied that this simple fix is the answer.
I have GOT to try this. Ever since I test drove it I've noticed this rattle. Here it is, a little over a month later and it's still driving me insane... To the point where I tilt it so it hardly rattles. When I have a minute or two, I will definitely try cleaning it down as suggested by others. Glad to hear the problem can be easily fixed!

I have the same rattle. On the freeway sometimes the whole sunroof moves up and down a large amount. I tried fixing the aluminum rods in the track by shoving a small piece of tubing on it, but it made no difference. I think Ive narrowed it down to play in the hinges of sunroof, which cannot be fixed or adjusted. Since I never use my sunroof, I bought some big rubber spacers, tilted the sunroof up, put the rubber spacers under the tracks and then closed the sunroof tightly down on the rubber spacers. It keeps it from rattling for the most part, as it stops the up and down movement of the sunroof. Cant slide it open like this though.

And thats what mine is I can clearly see the play in the hinges as the entire panel moves up and down. I'm think about the possibility of foam spacers or something to keep pressure on the glass while driving and if I want to open it, I can just remove the pieces.
