Sunroof rattle only when shade is shut

Have had an intermittent rattle coming from the sunroof on my 16 4Runner. When it is happening and I slide the shade open, even just a couple inches, it usually stops. Then when I close the shade again, it usually stays away for awhile. It's not regular enough for me to take it in to the dealer because I know how that goes. But when it does happen, of course it is annoying.

My 08 4Runner had a bad rattle that I eventually fixed(thanks to this forum) by putting some little washers or something in the track somewhere. But not sure if this is the same issue or not.

Any ideas?

Don't have an answer for you, but I occasionally get the same rattle. Like you, I just reach up and adjust the slide and it goes away.hwell:

OP - I have basically the same 4Runner as you: 2016 TEP, KDSS, Super White and I have this same rattle in my sunroof when the roof is closed but the shade is open. When it's happening, I can touch the aluminum piece that pops up when the sunroof is open and the noise subsides. At first this only happened with cooler temperatures - now it happens all the time.

I have brought it to the dealer under warranty and they said it was normal and then pointed at my BFG K02 LT tires as being stiffer and the reason why. I wonder if something has to be tightened on the aluminum bar that pops up?

I didn't know sunroof rattles were considered normal. I guess I will have to go back and check the brochure to see if the rattle is a standard feature that comes with the sunroof or an added option that I paid for and I didn't know. Gotta love the dealerships.
