Supercharged 4Runner as a daily driver

Exactly!

If the ones on ebay even the 1st gen came to around 1500 then they'll be worth it. Just don't understand how someone would be silly enough to spend that much for a used unit when they could shell out slightly more for a brand new unit.

Finally someone that thinks like me. I'll never understand why people buy anything used when you can pay a little more to have brand new. It may cost a bit more but it comes with piece of mind and depending on what it is potentially a warranty. The peice of mind if well worth the extra dollars.

I started to do some research and wow talk about over whelming, I wonder if all the hard ware comes with a new SC.

Also anyone know a good shop in the Bay Area that could install it? I would want to try it myself but after reading about the programming I would rather leave that to a Pro.

The magnuson kit comes with everything you need. IMO there is absolutely no reason to have someone else install it... It's by far one of the easiest installs I've ever done. If there is any part you may want to pick up, it's an OEM intake gasket, they are reusable but at 280k I decided a new one was better.

I'd suggest changing the spark plugs to one of the colder sets... I opted for the platinum lasers instead of the ik22's.

If you are going to do the 7th injector and other mods then, I can't speak to those.

Running 295/75/16, I get 16/18mpg city/hwy. If you have the money, do it. Just know you HAVE to run premium, cooler plugs are a good idea, and I swapped to a 170° thermostat to keep the temps down to where they were stock. At 6-7lbs of boost at WOT I have no pinging and I have 0 other mods. You just bolt it up. No programming anything.
Buy it, install it, enjoy it.

Mine is super charged with 5 inches of lift on 33's,295/70/17. I drive 22 miles a day to work and over 40 miles once a week to go rock climbing. So thats about 150 miles during the week so theres a tank of gas. On weekends I drive about the same seeing friends and family, hiking, kayaking, whatever. so theres half a tank ish. The weekend driving I can cut down but I like being out and about so that up to me.
I don't drive my truck like I stole it because, well I like my truck. If you drive like a normal person in normal traffic, highway I average about 19. I take backroads to work so I'm at about 15-16 with traffic lights and school busses.
I live in New Jersey so there is plenty of stop and go on the highway and living in norther New Jersey in the Appalachian mountains, yes we have 4 ski resorts we have plenty of hills to go up and over.
My brother has a stock 4runner and I notice how much more his truck has to shift just to keep up with traffic. We both drive with ETC on constantly. On the other hand, mine keeps up with traffic, gets out of its own way and has no problem passing cars in a hurry when you have to make a maneuver. I couldn't imagine driving 33's without it now. My friend has a very similar rig, same tires different lift and he seems preeeeeety jealous every time we take my truck, although I love his truck it's so well built. lift, bumpers, zero surface rust on the frame I'd trade him but then I'd have to buy a super charger.

Really you don't get pinging?? Ok well now I have a little bit of hope lol

I kept reading all these posts about people getting the pinging and they had to add the 7th injector. Thats why I was worried about the programing

Detonation or pinging can be caused by so many things. The knock sensor will retard timing saving the motor. Elevation, ambient temperature, and load will all factor into pinging. If you get the undersized pully it will add boost and that's when you need some more fuel. Most detonation on stock pully is at low throttle and rpms situations but that knock sensor will do its job saving the motor from eating itself.

I'll chime in since I ran my supercharged 00 at the same sea level and area as you. I ran it with just the SC for 1.5 years and didn't have any major issues. Some slight pinging if I'm really getting on it but overall it ran perfectly. Obviously the 7th helped a ton and made it more fun to drive but it wasn't absolutely necessary.

The magnuson SC's are not carb legal in Cali yet so no go on that one just yet. Probably can find a shop to pass it or just use the TRD code but it is something to think about.

For the install it really is very basic. Just take your time and no need for a shop to do it. I had never done any engine work besides spark plugs and was able to get it done no problem. If I have time I'd be happy to help but with a baby due on 2 months time isn't my friend haha.

I think I would go with TRD anyways, the whole thing that had me worried was the pinging and having to tune the urd myself. I'll probably roll with just the SC and if I get into any issue then I'll get the 7th injectoe... Thanks for the heads up

Oh and congratulation on the baby !!

Mine is boosted at 7psi, soon to be 9.5psi and I daily it. My other car, e46 M3 barely gets driven since I purchased this truck. I actually have listed the other car for sale just recently :).
