Supercharger idle noise

I have a gen 1 supercharger on my 98 4runner. It runs strong but the noise at idle bothers me. I've read in other posts that for some of these superchargers the box of rocks sound is normal and I shouldn't worry about it, but I do. The SC was rebuilt about 30k miles ago and the noise was there before and after the rebuild. Please let me know if you think this is normal or not. Thanks...

When you say it was rebuilt do you know if the rotor pack needle bearings were replaced or if it was just the nose cone that was rebuilt?

That noise sounds like it's the needle bearings to me. I just finished rebuilding my supercharger completely and cured the box of rocks sound at idle 100%.

The rebuild was done by Embree high speed labs. From what I see on their web site rotor cup- type or hole-through rear needle roller bearings are replaced as part of their complete rebuilds. The noise didn't change appreciably from before to after the rebuild.

Hmm, in that case it may just be the nature of that supercharger to run like that. I should note my supercharger is the black 2nd gen so it's not a direct comparison.
