Supercharger installed, loose ends tied up

After installing the SC last weekend, I needed to find a place for my scangauge and also my boost and AFR gauges. I ended up 3D printing a bracket that replaced the ashtray. Since I opted for digital gauges, the readouts are perfect and also aren't in my sight lines like they would have been if they were on the A Pillar. The Scangauge I just attached to one of the switch fills so it's still easy to move around.

Being in CA, I also wanted to have a CARB sticker for it, but couldn't find one, so I made one to replace the stock Vacuum Line Sticker under the hood. I used silver foil labels and it turned out perfectly!

I like everything...except your vacuum sticker.

I produce ones that look stock with mag/TRD's image as an influence if anyone is interested. Shameless plug I know...

Cool bracket. I'm sure a lot of 3rd genners would like that

Obligatory Engine Bay pic with label and supercharger.

PS-I recently power washed that engine, so it doesn't usually look that clean, but I felt it was appropriate to make room for the SC. It was pretty muddy before I did that though, I don't think it had been touched in 18 years!

Haha! That would have come in handy, what did you end up printing it on? I chose silver foil so it can withstand weather/water. But more importantly, I needed the CARB sticker and there would have been no way to fit both (vacuum and a decent CARB label) in that spot without redoing them both.

Oh cool! Yeah I'm a super novice with computers and printing but what I do works. I use shipping labels (stickers) and then laminate. Mine have lasted a long time so far. I reproduced my emissions sticker to include CARB numbers as well as engine swap bar coding and such. Bar codes actually scan too

Laminate, that's a good idea, can't be too careful with these.

LOL! too funny!

So I came back from a 800 mile trip from LA to SF and back Back again. Drove up the 5 so I went over the Grapevine. OMG!

The power difference was night and day. Before, I'd floor it up the grapevine and it would barely keep the speed, sometimes actually almost start to slow down!! Now, it would easily keep the speed and you could almost feel like it was being pulled up the mountain as the speed would increase. I like it!

So far no CEL, AFR is spot on, boost tops out at 7psi consistently. There was a slight ping around 2000-2500rpm on 4th under load (surprise surprise), BUT keeping ECT on and adjusting the trans valve cable (kickdown cable) made a nice difference, so now it doesn't reside in that range if I'm under load, it will downshift a gear so I'm around 2800 instead, no more ping.

MPG was around 14.7-15.3 mpg, same as before the SC really.

I notice 0-40 is so much faster, 40-60 it's sort of faster, but the difference isn't as great. Then downshifting anywhere from 55-70 and WOT, gives the truck some awesome pull (a couple of friends commented that the difference was very noticeable).

Nicely done! Glad I'm not the only one who knows about the cable adjustment trick. Basically eliminates all ping with the ECT Power button on.

Your MPG's are suffering big time though. I realize we are still on winter blend here in CA which kills our MPG's, but you should be pushing 18 even with a full load with those freeway miles. Or maybe you've got a lead foot? My last tank I did a lot of WOT runs for tuning and got my worst tank ever, 13.5 lol!

My last long road trip I hit 20.9 MPG. You use 91 octane though right?

Yep, 91 all the way. I think I was having too much fun going up the Grapevine, but with the lift, larger tires and getting into WOT a little too often, I'm not too surprised by it. Plus I wasn't going 65, so considering these things are bricks at speed...

Actually, I forgot to add the 8% speed difference caused by the tires, so at 15.3 with 8%, I was probably closer to 16.5 mpg.

Lift will do it. Whatever aerodynamics our 4Runners have left are lost with a lift lol. Enjoy the supercharger though, it's a blast to drive once you get it on there.

Quick update. Took it up to Big Bear today (about 7k elevation). Power was still good, even though I could only get it up to 2PSI boost at WOT. Wow, elevation NOT FTW :( But I figured if mine was "that bad" all these other cars were suffering too.

Something funny was seeing all these trucks (lifted, tires, etc) all having to put on chains (not required if you were 4WD and had something close to snow tires, I took a quick look and many of these trucks had what would be considered snow tires, but I guess not 4WD). I don't get it... buy a truck, lift it/trick it out, but it's only 2WD?!? Didn't know that many SoCal drives were in 2WD.

And I even won't go into how many had messed up/broken chains while driving on the mountain and slamming everywhere... wth is wrong with people? One truck even had to have themselves towed because it looked like their chain got caught in their wheel and got cinched on tight.. truck wasn't going anywhere.
