SuperCharger OR Gears... Which One?

Which one is better?

Not sure why this would even be a question. The supercharger is basically a bolt on and gives you a lot more power. This truck blows at high elevation, I'd kill to have some more power when cruising to Moab or Denver.

I know what it does. Replaces the upper intake and give you about 25% HP and Torque increase at 6 psi.

Trying to get feedback on people that have done it without a re gear, and are running 33's

It depends if you are changing tire size. If tires then gears so your rpm is correct. You can do both they do different things.

Well I'm running 285/75/16s and wouldn't bothering wasting my time with the effort to re-gear. However I'd love to add a supercharger to it. Not all 3rd gen 4runners came with the same gear ratio though.

Im running 33's with an SC but it still drags in the high elevations. Ive got armor and all that good stuff so gears are next then fuel Mods, it really never ends LOL

Bang for buck? Gears, hands down.

4.88 3rd members can be found for cheap in OEM Gen 2 runners, Pre-taco pickups

Just have 4.88's built in a front clamshell, and done.

Very minor investment compared to a supercharger. And the truck and transmission will thank you- so much more usability.

Supercharger first if you just have $ to burn, I guess. :)

Realistically if you have larger tires with additional added weight they go hand and hand with one another. But that's just my opinion. I'll be doing both personally.

I vote gears so you don't beat up your torque converter. I'm coming up on 3 weeks into waiting for a bunch of heavy packages from ECGS...

even though i started the thread... I've learned one thing...

it's your truck, do as your wallet allows and enjoy the smiles you make from it.

neither are 100% practical for 33's... I'm now running 285/75/16 and it's fine with the 4.30 gears and no SC.. yeah, gears would be nice, but that's what low range is for, power on free way is nice, but that's what OD/off is for...

Why not have both 488s and SC! It's best in both world if you ask me! I think it's the best combination, low end torque and high end power on the go with the sc!

I've been watching his build very closely. LS swapping is a lot more common in the jeep community than 4runner/tacoma world. One of the most difficult parts of the swap is exhaust/steering shaft interference. I really like his idea for getting around that. Anyways, he's not helping my need to be reasonable and is only stoking my desire for that LS V8 power that I miss so much.
