Supercharger

Hello, I am a new member, as you may be able to tell. I've purchased a vehicle from a member on this forum "Jev2022". It is an 01' SR5 with 114k miles. I need some opinions on whether it would be a good idea to supercharge and engine with this many miles. The truck is in great shape and has had all scheduled maintanance. Please let me know what you think. THANKS!

Mine had 85000 on it when I supercharged it, go for it and do it, according to UDR they say its not too many miles. I wouldnt do it with like 150000 but thats just me. also remember that the supercharger only puts out about 6 PSI of boost, not too much to destroy the engine.

Also remember, that you will be running lean with just the S/C on there and no fuel upgrades. This WILL shorten the life of the motor. Plan on another $1200 or so for the proper fuel mods to ensure your truck lasts with the s/c on there. Check out www.gadgetonline.com for more info...

fuel upgrades

are you referring to the 7th injector? when i supercharge i will make all the needed changed to ensure that no un-needed wear will be on the engine. My father works for toyota so I will be able to get the parts at cost. saving me a great deal of money. Also, with the supercharger, what are some other upgrades that would be helpful to look into? headers? exhaust? lightened pulleys? ect... I have some knowledge about this stuff, but I was just hoping there would be a Toyota Tech. on this site.

Thanks everyone

To get it running safely, all you need is a 7th injector with timing control. The TRD one is an option, but a better option IMO is the 7th injector from www.urdusa.com. It is available with timing control to get rid of detonation and is top quality.

There is also anything else you will need to tune it properly and get the most performance out of it on the site. The complete, highest performance set-up would be:

7th Injector with timing control
AFR Calibrator
2.1 inch supergrip pulley
Aquamist water/methanol injection to lower intake temps (allows you to run higher boost without having to reduce timing as much)
Headers and a good 2.5 inch mandrel bent exhaust with free flowing muffler.

You will also want to look into a valve body upgrade for your transmission. It shortens the length between shifts and saves your clutch packs. If you do all of the above without this, your trany will burn out pretty quickly.

Good luck!

DAMN GREEDY. that is a sweeeeet set up

now as far as a price/ power gain comparison goes, which is better? i would imagine more HP from the t/c and cheaper for the s/c. It has always been my understanding that a s/c is easier on the engine because it doesnt create back pressure.

Thanks! It is a fun set-up but ALOT of work, time and $$ went into it.

In my opinion, turbo is the way to go if you are looking for the most power. It is more flexible in terms of regulating the amount of boost, it uses an intercooler to cool down your intake temps, there is no parasitic drag from the drive belt like on the S/C, and, this is the most important one, the blow off valve sounds really cool:D

However, the S/C is a good option too and is great for off roading, towing, and puts down a good amount of strong, streetable power.

There are no kits like the TRD S/C to turbo our motors. Mine was completley custom fabricated. Unless you know a good shop that can create your manifolds, crossover, down pipe, intercooler piping, and exhaust, I would recommend going the S/C route.

Max rwhp with the S/C set-up ever documented (without NOS) - 304 hp or so.

Max rwhp with turbo set-up documentd (again no spray) - 370 hp or so.
