if you buy used(which is what i did) you can get a great deal on a 1st generation charger for under $800. A 7th injector kit goes for around $500 used. as you can see, you can be in a complete kit for less than $2000. But you have to be willing to scan the for sale posts, ebay, craigslist on a regular basis. BTW the tacoma truck forums usually has more stuff to browse through.
I dont know if you have an automatic or not, but you can pick up a new tranny cooler for under $75, and do a valvebody modification yourself.

What all do I need to get ? Whats the difference between 1st and 2nd gen ? From what ive read its nothig. The 1st gen is louder thats all.

Both 1st, and 2nd gen chargers utiize the eaton M62 blower. They both flow the same. The 2nd generation supercharger is black, and a 1 piece design. and a lot better looking than the grey 1st gen, which is a 2 piece design. But if you get a 1st gen charger, you will most likely want to rebuild it before you put it on. You can get a full rebuild for around $300. Just make sure if you buy used, you get all of the accessories. you need the dynamic tensioner, all of the mounting bolts, 1 way check valve, and either the TRD throttle body gasket. You can also modify the stock aluminum gasket to work if need be. And of course, you need the belt.

i am not running a fuel kit at all, and i have not experienced any pinging issues running premium fuel. I may eventually do a fuel upgrade. I have seen the 7th injector kits go for around $4-500. I would probably just go with a set of supra mkIII injectors, with a greddy emanage, instead of the URD kits. i have seen a few of those used, but are still pretty expensive. I figure i can get an emanage used for about $250, and you can get the supra injectors rebuilt, and flow tested for about $30 a piece on rockauto.com. If you want to save some $$ on a fuel pump, you can go with a 3rd generation rx7 fuel pump. These are readily available used on rx7club.com. You can pick one of these up for around $30. They flow more than the walbro everyone uses on here.

BTW, for the other poster. I installed my supercharger on my 4runner at 154k, and i now have almost 160k on it, with no problems with the engine. As long as the motor has good compression, it doesnt really matter how many miles are on it.

scotts97T4Rltd I pm'ed you. Ive also read some people out a computer in their 4runner after the s/c ? I have to buy a scan tool too ?

1st Gen Supercharger

Hey guys, brand new here, just got my 2001 T4R w/ 91k on it (pics coming). I'm wanting to get a supercharger and I found a 1st gen for $1350. Is this a decent deal after I spend the money on a rebuild? Thanks in advance.

2nd gens are better (so I hear and I don't know why). I also know people that have 1st gens without any issues. I would think a 1st gen should sell for about $900-$1000.

With that said, if you don't buy it, pass the info to me so I can.

Im'a hook you up with teh links brudda.

Read like no tomorrow!

Start with this one..
TRD Supercharger

Then this one..
UltimateYota.com

Project SportRunner

The 2nd gen unit is better because you dont have to ship it out for a rebuild. You can do it with the S/C still on the motor! See my build..
Not to mention the price of rebuilding. On the 1st gens its upwards of $700 and about 2 weeks after all the back and forth shipping. The 2nd gen unit is about 250 to rebuild in an afternoon.

I would expect to pay 1200-1500 for a used 2nd gen unit. I think I paid 1200 for mine. Then the URD 7th is like, what? $900. And the Other stuff like URD pulley (100)

Also check out my build thread, and bigfishallday's, and Dirtco's, and wilson's, and so on..

ok thats like asking if the 5.7 tundra s/c would fit....

i didnt figure any other would, and havent heard of anyone running anything but TRD, but there are a lot of s/c brands and figured i would see to make sure

for my $0.02 i have only seen one taco 2nd gen s/c here in OK, was off the truck and looked d**m new, for like $2,000

I'm sure you could probably get almost any supercharge to work on any engine given the right amount of fab work and money. But the only known bolt on for the 3.4 is the TRD. URD is making a prototype that has been in "testing" for sometime, but there's no release date as of yet.

Good find on the truck! My advice is be patient and wait for a 2nd gen to come around and snag that. Problems come up with the first gen. It has to be sent to magnuson to be rebuilt. Another reason is i've read a few places even magnuson can't get the nose cone to stop weeping oil. Another is that the SC needs to come off the truck to change the oil. (which you do not want to do, Trust me). If removing a SC is anything like installing one on, its not quick and easy. I recently bought a 2nd gen for 1600. Slightly over priced. But its hard to be picky when there are 0 used ones on ebay or anywhere else for that matter...other things to consider while its open: timing belt, water pump, thermostat, valve cover gaskets.
