a 2 door 70 series. it seats 7. 3 on the front bench, and it has two side fold out benches in the back that seat two people each. it has a swing out door that also holds the spare tire. and its solid axle front and rear. the 70 series is the goto toyota in the rest of the world, for whatever reason its not sold in the U.S.. it comes in 2 door, four dour, ambulance, flat bed, no bed, you name it.

I picked up a trooper on criags for $900 just to beat around in. 5 speed manual and 4wd was a beast. Had 215,000 when I sold it but I had the head gasket done.
However, I think I would build up a dodge raider/2-door montero. Its like a miniature tank.

03-04 Xterra or perhaps a mitsubishi montero. Both are reliable, inexpensive and quite capable stock.

daaamn, reminds me of my 92 bone stock 5spd 2wd dark gray rodeo I had several years back...Either an FJ80 or if no toyota's allowed i'd switch back to an Isuzu Rodeo.

Lol... having the majority of the company owned by GM was the reason they left passenger car production in North America (didn't go out of business.. last I checked Isuzu light trucks still exist). Still very popular elsewhere, especially Asia and Africa.
I loved mine and it was very reliable. They have their quirks in the similar way 4Runners do but other then that they aren't bad trucks at all. I'd go back to one in a heartbeat if I knew the OE parts would be around in 5 or 7 years, but that's not guaranteed, hence my purchase of the 4Runner.
I could write paragraphs upon paragraphs about Isuzu's and why they acquired the bad rep they did but you don't care and I'm not going to waste my time. I have a soft spot for them but I do have a brain in my head hence my move to Toyota.

I love those older Isuzu's. It's a shame that a Consumer Reports lie killed off the Trooper. The 98+ 3.2/3.5 aluminum block engines have a pretty poor reputation though. Lots of oil system issues I believe. The GM supplied autoboxes is an entirely separate sh!tstorm on its own. They did a pretty good job for the last "real" Isuzu with the 04' Rodeo. Direct Injection 3.5 with an Aisin autobox. I know of a person with one and it has been totally reliable.
