That is pretty sweet... But yea $19k too high. Speedometer crooked too not that it isn't fixable, but I do like the gauge arrangement
 
I just looked at that thing... I don't see the 25k he said it cost to build?? You can get a 2jz (which is not quite as good as the 1jz), transmission and ecu from just about any JDM website for @ 4-4500. He is probablly totalling the labor in his total cost, which everyone knows that you can never really figure labor into the cost unless you are doing some serious restoration. Personally I would like to see more jz swaps into toyotas, a natrually aspirated 1jz will yield more power than a sc 5vz-fe that is in the 3rd gen 4rs.

I have worked for almost two years with a guy who is really big into the aisian import tuning. He has an acura running a vtec engine. We have talked so much about the benefits of these engines and just how good they are... I don't remember the parts, but the jz series especially the 1jz are capable of almost 500hp with stock internals, turbos, intercoolers etc as bolt on exterior mods...

If you really want a powerful I6, the RB series engines from Nissan are really the way to go. A RB26 DET2, can get even better numbers than the JZ series engines... That is why we don't get the good skylines in america

haha yeah, I noticed that. Call me a skeptic, but if someone swapped the drivetrain in the car I'm about to buy and they didn't have the attention to detail to put the guages in straight, I'd be a bit worried about more important things that may have went in off-keel.

All in all, I like the concept, but how reliable is it going to be? Don't most of us buy the 4runners for their reliability on/off road knowing they don't make a ton of power? Or is that a poor generalization on my part?

If that's what he wanted he should have just gotten a VW Touareg V10 TDI.

Shit if you're gonna buy that might as well buy the bigger brother Audi Q7 with the 6.0 v12 with 740 TQ.
 
So this thread allows me to ask a question that Ive been curious about for a while now but havent wanted to ask so as not to show my ignorance . . . why hasnt anyone on the forum swapped a supra engine into a 3rd gen? How possible would it be with the 1jz-gt or 2jz-gt?

That would be sweet but, correct me if I'm wrong, the Q7 was never available in the US with the V10 or the V12.

We had a 2008 3.6 Lux. Sold it a few years ago to get a more family friendly SUV, Honda Pilot.
I'd love to get another one when we're out of car seats.
