Suprised after 1st oil change

So I took my 07 with 2500 miles in to change the oil. The special at the Toyota dealer. I get the Beast back and my MPG is 0.0 and my odometer is now set to trip at 0.0.......(it was just on the odometer prior to the service).

What would cause that? I drove for a while to reassure myself that the computer is still working and was relieved to find that after about 20 miles the MPG was at it's usual (about 19-20)...

ideas appreciated.....wierd.

The technician had to play with the trip odometer button to reset the counter for the maintenance warning light. (Instructions for that are posted elsewhere on the forum.) They probably hit the trip button a couple of extra times, resetting the trip counter in the process.

That wouldn't explain the MPG in the computer showing zero. The computer had to be reset to show that.

They probably just disconnected the negative battery cable, which is standard procedure in many repairs, even if it isn't really needed.

If the battery was disconnected, then you will need to reinitialize the sunroof, drivers window, and rear window.

Seriously I wouldn't worry about it. They probably reset the comp. and zero'd it out and did the same thing with the trip meter. Not a big deal.

I think they had your battery disconected at the time of service.

.i don't think at this point that they disconnected the battery as those functions are working fine or they may have reinitialized/ How does the maintenance warning light function.

They probably wanted to hide the fact they took it out for a joyride and beat the hell out of it.

This is EXACTLY what happened to my wife, the first and last time it went to the dealership. Except they weren't smart enough to zero out all the data, we got it back with 12 miles added to the odo and 4mpg less than what it was dropped off with.

It went in for an oil change (there was NO reason to even drive it, aside from moving to from the oil change bay)...I normally do them, but I was away...so the wife took it to the stealerhip...it will never go back.

If the odometer went back to zero, your warranty just got extended by another 2500 miles.

Not sure what they did to reset the odometer. When I pulled the negative cable on mine, I only loss the tripomters and the MPG calculator along with the radio presets and auto up/down windows and open/close on the moonroof.

im like 99% percent sure it was the battery being disconnected at least when ever ive disconnected my battery that what caused all those things for me

I read the original post to mean that the trip odometers had been reset. Disconnecting the battery will not reset the vehicle odometer.

Oh, imagine the headache that would create.

"Gee, honey.....I replaced the battery and now we have a five-year-old car with zero miles."

I believe that you'll have to reset the trip computer, the radio station presets and possibly the trip odometer, but I don't know why anything else should cause great concern because a battery terminal was temporarily disconnected.

just to clarify. the odometer was not reset the trip odometer was reset to 0.0. the mpg was 0.0. the sunroof, all windows and radio presets were not changed. the dealer says they are required to re-set the trip odometer and the mpg so that a maintenance light does not come on at 4800 miles in the new vehicles.....it does not affect the odometer....just a switch so they say..........
