Suprisingly Good Luck with Felpro VCG's

OK. Here it goes.

I have changed my valve cover gaskets a few times with a rig that has 306K+ miles on it. The last time I did this in 2016, I went with the Felpro VCG's from Advance Auto Parts. (Had a 25% off coupon with the online order...)

I have kept an good eye on my engine (I clean it regularly) and the Felpros (often called "FailPros") have held up really well. I have seen so signs of leaks since 2016! I torqued everything down per spec (and sequence) and I also used new gaskets for the screw heads on the valve cover gaskets.

At the time I did the change, I considered the Ishino VCG's. At that time, I was not willing to fork out the $$$$ for the OEM gaskets or the Ishino's. I must admit, I knew (at the time) the Felpro gaskets were a gamble but right now, I have to admit I am very pleased.....

Anyone else have this experience?

I used felpro VCG’s back in May or June of 2017. Probably put about 15k miles on them, at least. So far, so good!

A few times? I would hope with OEM to get at least a decade out of them, maybe longer.

Never used FP on the 4Runner but have never had a problem using them.

I suspect most problems are from installer error rather than the product. However 2 years is not alot of time. Only time will tell how they hold up to the OEM product. My OEM VCG's were still sealing after 20 years but when I went in to replace them they were hard and brittle.
