Surface rust on engine block

Hey guys. My 2001 4Runner has some spotty surface rust on the engine block. there is pretty much no rust on the truck or any of the engine components but the iron block (closer to the bottom of the engine). I assume this is from heat or something? Should I be concerned? Thanks!

You're scaring me! It really is not much rust! I am just concerned about the future. Rust does not happen in Texas....

Don't get scared. You should play the lottery if your block manages to rust through. I struck the mega millions the next day.

It's cast iron, which doesn't really rust, just gets a surface coating of it. Also the heat plays a factor as well.

LOL, I'm pretty pissed at myself for not blasting & painting my block when I had it re-built. It looks like a 17 year old motor with only 20,000 miles on it.
