My 2005 T4R Limited now has 4k miles. Since new, it occasionally surges between 600 and 800 rpm at idle. This does not correlate with AC or any other intermittent load. This may not seem like much but nearly pushed me into the car in front of me as I was paying less than complete attention at a stop. Anyone else experience this?

Unintended Acceleration
I have experienced the same type of unintended surging with my 2005 V8.
Both selling dealer (IRA Toyota/Peabody MA) and local Toyota dealer (Rochester,NH) say it's operating right at factory specs (and that they can't do anything because it's computer controlled).Not only does it surge at stop signs, but when let off gas to slow down rpms will initially drop to about 800 then surges in gear to 1400 to 1500rpm. Makes it hard to slow down. I believe it is dangerous now and will be treacherous this winter on snow. Last dealer said to stop looking at the tach..like that it going to solve the problem? I am considering filing a safety complaint with the National Safety Board as this UNINTENDED ACCELERATION is unsafe. To make things worse power steering pump died at 11K and replacements are backordered.

It could possibly be your transmission shifting back into first and kicking up the RPM's.

Unfortunately problem has not gone away.
Dealer help has been non-existent, other than to say can't do anything unless Toyota does a computer patch to address issue.
Serv ice tech has said that some Sequoia owners are now complaining of same issue.
Love the 4Runner except for this issue.
Makes it downright treacherous on snow/ice
I quess this will be my last Toyota, which is too bad since I otherwise have like the prior landcruisers,4runner,celicas etc. that I've owned. Too many good vechiles out there today to have to put up with this type of problem

I have an idle surge also, but I only notice it when my AC compressor kicks on and off.
When I'm sitting at a light, I have to be really alert or the vehicle will roll forward, could definitely bump the person in front of me.
Annoying little quirk. Never had this on any other vehicle I've owned.

Exactly. I garage my 4Runner in the parking garage under our condo. Tight manuevering room to start with.
The surging idle makes it treacherous.
I've never experienced this with the 3 prior landruisers(1 with V8), the other toyotas (4runner,celicas. pickup and corolla), nor the BMW's or Saabs that I've owned.
Does Toyota really want this to be my experience with their
new vehicles? Don't understand why it isnb't a simple computer patch to remedy.
