If the title of the thread were "Surprisingly stable on bald tires" or "Surprising that my truck stops with these sketchy brakes", you are correct, it would be just as stupid as driving at speeds beyond the capability of your vehicle to avoid an accident!

I suppose what you mean is that it is just fine for macho tough guys like the OP and you to drive like this because your driving skills are far superior to all the "do-gooder women" who drive in a safe manner and just get in your way.

OK, then I'm a do-gooder woman who wants to drive the public roads without being killed by some fool who thinks they are a Formula 1 driver. I hope when you crash you only kill yourself and not a family driving safely and minding their own business.

There's really no argument here. Going above 100 mph in a 5,000 pound 4runner with S rated tires is idiotic and completely inconsiderate to other people's lives and well being.

Again, grow the hell up. Calling someone a woman because we're not okay with...

On I-5 going from San Francisco to Los Angeles and back, I was cruising at 90mph average and going up to 110mph

Googles tells me that's 383 miles ONE WAY. This jabroni just said he did nearly 800 miles AVERAGING 90 MPH.

Speeding aside, 5th gen (my with KDSS) is major improvement in how stable it feels vs 4th gen (with XREAS) mostly due to improved steering. 4th gen is notorious for excessive play in steering wheel. It is known fact that 5th gen has a terrible nose dive during braking. I imagine XREAS makes it somewhat better. I my opinion 4th and 5th gens are pretty cumbersome and heavy at speeds above reasonable limits. I wouldn't push it even on closed or public roads or tracks because as long as you are going straight you are safe (ish). Brings to mind Helloween's song:

I haven't ever thought the 4runner was stable at high speed. For one if there's any wind it's pretty scary IMO. Go drive a stable car like a Subaru STi or Lancer Evolution. Not only do they have great high speed stability but they have great awd systems to aid in emergency handling. 110 in a 4runner is dumb

You're recommendation to driving a 4runner for comparison..is to drive a turbocharged performance car that sits an inch off the ground and has been optimized for aerodynamics and high speed? LOL

Would a real recommendation be "go drive another SUV and see how it compares to the same class of vehicle"?

Or is comparing apples to oranges a thing now?

Did you hit the governor at 109? They are definitely stable over 100 as long as road is smooth, no wind, tires stay circular[emoji1787],No one els is around. About as stable as me psycho ex girlfriend

IMHO: I personally would not recommend driving 5th gen 4Runner at speed above 100-110 miles -unless there is a life or death situation…. or you just feel like it (even if it is stupid) and it is somewhat safe to do: no other vehicles around and empty highway… at the same time, everyone can do what ever they want -US is still a free country last time I checked.

As far as “being stable on the high speed” obviously there is a LOT of factors that will impact vehicle stability and 4Runner have couple major once that are not helping in that situation: high center of gravity, relatively soft suspension with relatively long travel, relatively short wheel base, large sidewall tires, poor aerodynamics and thin sway bar…

On that Note: Trail 4Runners with KDSS is vastly better vs. other models when it comes to being stable on the high speed and especially emergency handling (large sway bar can do wonders in those situations) … when I was doing test driving, 5th gen 4Runner without KDSS felt “tippy” even at 60 mph speed…

All above is not counting “personal” feelings on how "stable" the vehicle is... LOL… just look at people going 80 mph driving lifted 2 door Jeep… that about 40 or even 50 mph past its “stability” limitation... and they still do it every day!

I found the Bilstein shocks of the PRO to handle better than KDSS equipped models. Feels more stable not only at high speeds but also on curvy on/off ramps.
A friend owns a KDSS Off Road and we did some comparisons. On average the Bilstein equipped PRO can do almost 10mph more on sharp off-ramp curves than the KDSS before it starts feeling unstable.

As for high speeds - I find the 4Runner to be very stable when doing triple digits (of course only on empty interstates).
Most of the time it's about 90mph to go with the flow here in Massachusetts and the 4R is doing very well.

Not sure why some would compare a Subaru WRX to a 4R. They are no off-road vehicle and on the other hand they are also no sports car. Any Mercedes limousine is more stable at speeds above 120+mph than a WRX.

110 in an Evo isn't anything like going 110 in a 4runner.

Tires alone arent rated for past like 80 in most trucks. Trailer tires are even worse. I once witnessed a guy going 80 in a Tahoe pulling a boat. I was merging into the interstate thinking those Chinese trailer tires are going to blow and then one did! Hes lucky he had tandem so he didn't loose the whole thing. Rubber went pretty high into the air, had I been closer it would have hit my car.

Speed is okay when you're alone on the road and in a purpose built car, take it seriously and pre trip inspect the car before you go raiding the roads.

Driving in Montana and Arizona if you aren't going 100 you aren't moving fast enough. Just watch out for the elk!

I am sure Bilstein shocks on the PRO are better than regular shocks… how much better for the “sway” control that would be hard to quantify by “feel”… Properly tuned (thick) sway bar is your best approach to control sway of any vehicle -considering that every other part of suspension is up to par of course

Again, overall, I agree with your statement about Bilstein shocks vs. regular shocks… that is one of the reasons I have Bilstein shocks on my Trail in conjunction with KDSS- best of both worlds. :dancin:
