Suspension Advice Needed

[1999 4Runner]

Hello all. I am new to the site.
I recently purchased a 1999 4x4. I have replaced the shocks/ struts with OEM and I still have a bounce. What are the symptoms of worn coils? It don't seem to have the rear sag. Thanks for any advice.

I would need to measure but it doesn't seem to sag, if so, it's not bad. It doesn't feel stable at all. If it would help with the bouce, I would change out the springs, struts and shocks with OME. I don't mind spending the cash, just want it to ride better.

If you say jump off the rear bumper can you watch the truck bounce multiple times? If you compress the suspension is should bounce up real quick to original height without any bouncing.

I never had a new 3rd gen 4runner so can't comment on OEM, but a properly working shocks should stabilize the bounce very quickly. It should be noticeably different if your old shocks were bad.

I bought a 99 4runner w/ 160k miles and the bounce drove me insane. That's around the time I found this forum and ended up w/ the Tundra/LC coils w/ Bilstein 5100s. I love this setup.

When I push down on the back it bounces a few times. the front also bounces. Could it be anything else other than the coils? I purchased from the original owner, it hasn't ever been off road or abused.

I am thinking about purchasing OME shocks/ struts and coils. I don't off-road so would I need the medium setup?

If you're looking for a budget conscious setup, you could look into the coils listed at Rockauto.com. I've heard less than desirable things about MOOG parts by the way, so maybe not those.

I've got the Moogs on rear of my truck, along with adjustable Monroe air shocks. Mixed feelings about this setup, feels pretty loose and sloppy with the air shocks not pumped up to 35-40 psi or more, which in an unloaded truck is 1.5 inches of lift on the back. Thinking about going to an OME+bilstein setup to haul decent loads without sag and having a slightly firmer ride in the back. You get what you pay for I suppose, the Moog coils were $50 for the pair, and the Monroe air shocks were another $50 for the pair. Front has KYB GR2 shocks and the original springs.

That said, the ride as is is MASSIVELY better than the original worn out suspension and sagging rear springs.
