Suspension for 285's

I want to put 285/75/16 BFG AT's on my 2000 4wd limited. I'll probably buy the 3" OME kit from toytec but I hate the look when the rear is jacked up higher than the front. I would most likely order the 881 front coils with top spacer for full 3" front lift, but I can't decide on the rear springs. Would the 906 rear springs (2"?) fit 285's in the rear?

If you're buying 881's, go with 890's in the rear. Even without the spacers, the front would be higher than the rear if you run 906's out back.

906s will not fit 285s. Havin run the OME suspension with 881s and both 906s and 890s in the rear I highly suggest spending the extra $$ and getting Toytec coilovers with 890s and the Bilstein 5125 shocks out back. The OME suspension rides ok with 265s but when I made the switch to 285s it rode like crap. LC coils ride much better than the 890s but if you hate having it raked then those are not for you.

I dont really understand why people dont like the raked look. A little rake is natural on any car/truck. But to each his own. I like a little rake because once you add a little weight to the rear it levels out. I dont know about you but I end up having some weight back there more often than not.

I never have weight in the back other than towing a small Seadoo occasionally. I will look into toytec coilovers but didn't want to spend over 1k.

The great thing of the coilovers is that you can dial in the exact height/rake you want.

As said, you can run 285s w/o any lift. Lift or no lift, the tires will rub in the same spots, just more often without a lift. Ultimately, to minimize/eliminate rubbing, you will want 3" of suspension lift and 1"-1.5" of body lift. Without a BL, the tires will rub at the tops of the fenders when fully stuffed.

No matter what lift you have, you will have some rubbing and need to do some trimming of the pinch welds in the front fenders.

as stated above you can run the 285 with out a lift, and i have very minimal rub -only and full lock and full flex. if you flatten over your pinch welds on the front fenders the only rub you will experience is from the inside of the tire on the frame rail, behind the struts. i have only rubbed once or twice in the back and that was with some pretty hard flex and then it was just on my mud flap. btw im on my second set of 285s, if i thought it was bad or hard on things i would not have bought the bigger tires again.

thanks guys for helping me not sound like a broken record lol

to the OP if you only want to do a small lift that would probably get you so you wont rub at all(if im only barely rubbing every blue moon with no lift, then if you add a small lift you should be in the clear)

Thanks for the replies. Is there a way to adjust the rear bump stop longer so that when tucking, the larger tires don't rub?

You can add a spacer to the bumpstop. If your suspension is flexible enough, the front will rub up top when fully stuffed.

Why limit the suspension just to run larger tires?

i dont understand you guys... you all are so freaked out of a little rub wth!? its not like your doing 70mph when it rubs, your not even doing 5mph(and if you are going that fast at full flex you have bigger issues than a little tire rub)... the rub is not bad at all, and its barely noticeable.
take it from someone who wheels their truck and wheels it fairly hard(id venture to say harder than most on here) and it is not bother some in the least or damaging to anything. -and if you are going to use the argument that you want it to be like factory or what ever, then why are you modifying it at all in the first place... idk i guess i shouldnt care. if you wanta spend the money on a lift then by all means go for it, im just trying to save you some hassle, time and money buy telling you, you dont need a lift....
and i agree with gerdo why would you want to limit your travel, thats silly thats like saying i want to replace my springs with blocks...

Well I run tokico LC rear shocks and they can blow out when they fully compress. So I run Daystar bump stops with 2" lowering brackets that SS sells. I loose a little travel when its stuffed but no chance blowing shocks. Also if you go with a longer shock it can cause the LC coils too fall out during full flex so thats also not good.

I agree I had a s10 blazer with a very small lift and 31's and they still rubbed but only when I was off roading, a little rub here and there won't hurt anything, and I can't imagine that the ride quality would change that much from 285's, I saw minimal differences when I put the bigger tires on my blazer (esentially the equivalent from 265s to 285s) but then again the ride quality was already crappy since torsion bars suck on chevy's
