Suspension issue?

I just bought a 96 4runner 4wd with about 140,000 miles on it. The problem I have is that the truck has an extreme need to follow ruts-much worse than any other vehicle I have owned. It seems a little "darty" and it catches me off guard. My boyfriend seems to think that there is no way it needs new tire rods or ball joints. Has anyone had a similar problem or a fix? Thanks!

What type/size of tires are you running? What rim size? Need more information to help you. You may need new suspension components, but first post back with tire info.

Could be an alignment issue. If your caster numbers are not high enough (in the positive direction), that could cause your problem.

Do you have any play in your steering, or does your steering seem nice and tight. If you have play, then your steering rack bushings could be due for replacement.

The tires I'm running are 265/70/16's on a suv "Pathfinder" tire. About what mileage do balljoints and tire rods need replacing?
