Suspension Lift - Beilstein 5100's

Hi All-
Just looking for some information on suspension lifts and how you'all are getting the height and stance you want.

I purchased Beilstein 5100's with OME-885 2.5" Coils for the front and OME-889 Coils for the rear. Giving me an even stance all the way around on a medium weighted spring.

The thing that has me scratching my head is the settings on the 5100's. Ranging from 0 to 2.75". Yes I know it extends (preloads) the shock, but everything I've read keeps saying leave the 5100's at "0" and let the springs lift the truck. I'm just looking for some clarification from others on that before I have my lift incorrectly.

That is correct. The additional settings come into play when you are using the stock spring. If you have lift springs, I would leave the shocks on the lowest setting and let the springs do the lift.

Glad I posted as my mechanic had my front shocks set in the top ring setting. I called and told him that he needed to set them at "0" and allow the OME springs to lift the rig. From everything I heave read, it seems if you preload the shocks it will ride like a dump truck.

A little extra may not cause huge problems, but from my experience on another truck, even with stock springs, using the top setting made the ride way too rough because there was next to no downward travel left.

I'm not sure what you mean by lean? The lift is being installed tomorrow 3/21/19, so this is the first I've heard of any lean.
the factory has 2 slightly different size oem springs to compensate the weight, (driver, gas tank, etc). If you swap those w/ aftermarkets then you may have a slight lean. You could set the drivers side up 1 clip. Take a look at this pic of the trd pro Bilstein kit. The one on the right is the drivers side (LF). It's up 1 notch. Anther option is a small spacer above the top hat, same effect. Hope this makes sense.
Post pics and hub to fender measurements after the install.

I would not preload an aftermarket lift spring on a 5100. 5100s are meant for stock springs and if you use anything other than a stock spring your warranty is void. So I have read here. But never checked myself so do your own research.

I have also seen photos of sheared off 5100 snap rings, caused by preloading an aftermarket lift spring. Perhaps this is why they don't warranty these things with aftermarket springs.

Having said that, I used Dobinson 2 inch lift springs on mine. On the lowest clip settings. And a 1/4 inch lean spacer on the drivers side. Sits perfectly level. A 1/4 inch spacer plate gives about 1/2 inch lift. If the clip is in the second position on the driver side to account for a lean, with a stock spring it will raise it .85 inches and with a lift spring who knows. Likely creating a lean the other direction. You only need 1/2 to level it. Use a spacer.

And when I say my 4Runner sits perfectly level, that is on perfectly flat ground. If you don't measure on a flat surface, it might not measure level. A little ground uneveness throws off the measurements quite a bit.

Yes, though I had a 3/8 lean from the factory fully stock.

I put a 1/4" Toytec spacer on top of my driver side Dobinsons spring and I am at the same 3/8s meaning that 1/4" spacer compensates perfectly.

The lift gain is actually +50% rather than +100%, so 1/4 to 3/8s. I read that on the Wheelers site and that's what I got as well. I read often here that you double the lift, so 1/4 spacer = 1/2 lift but seems to be wrong.

I have the Toytec HD 2.5" lift coils (TT 521600) in fronts with 1/2" thick strut top plate spacer on driver side & 1/4" thick spacer on pass side. I HAD my front Bilstein 5100's originally set to the very bottom "0" lift option for the first year of the lift & it seemed fine. I did notice a little settling in of the springs & decided to see how the second clip 0.85" setting would look & it bumped the lift right back up to where it sat day 1 of the lift. It rides fine (I am very happy with it). Very little nose dive when braking. It doesn't ride like a kushy SUV or Cadillac, but more like a truck with a little lift - go figure. Also, my CV joint angles look exactly the same as they did day 1 of the lift. Here's a side shot with this setup + my CV boots:

Well, I got everything installed and I have to say it looks pretty good. I cant tell that there is any lean at all, so if I cant tell I'm just not going to concern myself with it.

So, how does it ride?!

I'm looking to do this, also. I have everything in my cart and I'm excited to buy!

It rides just as good as any $65,000 truck from any dealership. Maybe even better!

If you can accept the fact that your 4Runner will no longer ride like a luxury SUV, but much more like a well built truck, then you will love the ride. Mine rides and handles so much better than before!

If you go with a tire, consider BFG KO2's as they do not have much road noise at all if that's what you're going for.

Thanks for the reply.

Those are the tires I am going to go with. 285's.
