Suspension Replacement

I was replacing my oil noticed my front shocks were leaking. I have about 132K on an 02 Limited. So I got some new shocks (not doing a lift) and I am getting ready to replace them. Has anyone out there encountered difficulties when replacing the shocks on the front?

The main thing is be very carefull when swapping the springs over to the new shock. That is where most people run into problems. Other then that just hit the bolts with some PB blaster or similar product night before to help the change go smoother. You can borrow spring compressors from the larger chain Auto parts store.

If you don't have a wall mounted spring compressor I would suggest removing the strut assemblies and taking them to a shop and having them reassembled with the new shocks, you can rent spring compressors but if you haven't worked with them before they can be a PITA (and pretty dangerous!)

I have replaced suspensions on cars before with out to much difficulty. Never on a truck though. Looks to be pretty standard as far as removal of the assembly goes. In the past I used the spring compressors from Autozone and I did not have much trouble with the taking the assembly apart only a little with putting them back together.

Remember that a truck spring is way more heavy duty than a car spring so it will be harder to compress.

not only that, I found that the autozone spring compressors you cant get the safety pin over the spring (coils are to thick) which can make it dangerous. I just put on a old football helmet and did it anyways. Just be careful.

i demand pics! lol, don;t blame you i used those once and they scarred the crap out of me, i was about to do the same thing but don't have a football helmet, i just everything from an arms length, so next time i put a lift on i used these from harbour freight
