Suspension Replacement

Hey guys, quick question:

My 01 4Runner is about to hit 145k miles. This week I'm heading over to the dealership to get my springs, shocks, and struts replaced (Never done). (or is there an aftermarket suspension kit that keeps similar ride height and BETTER ride quality on road?) as well as the 150k mile service. Can anyone give me any idea of how much this should cost?

If you just want stock replacement, get the 3.0 kit from Sonoran steel and do the install yourself. You will save TONS of money over going to the dealership. And since you are in Cali, you shouldn't have any rust, making the job quite easy.

Sadly, I moved here to LA from Georgia. And I not only had to give up living in a house and all of my equipment, I had to give up my WRX as well.

I don't really have the tools or anywhere to work. So DIY is out of the picture.

Take a trip to sears buy 2 jack stands, and a metric socket kit from like 8-20mm for like $30, then go to home depot buy a 2x4 and put it under the jack to get some extra height and so you have all the necessary tools to change the struts and springs and shocks...

I would say the rear is about 1 hour start to finish with 4 bolts, and. Tbe front is 2-3 hours with 8bolts...

If you decide the dealer is too much, let me know, i'm always down for some side work, and it would save you a good amount of money in the process.

If you do decide to go with the dealer i would order all of the parts ahead of time from one of the online dealers. Typical "so cal" dealers charge 10% over the retail pricing in the rest of the country. A lot of them still offer good web pricing, but most give you an attitude if you don't order it online ahead of time.

There are a lot of us here in So Cal that will gladly help you wrench on items. If you are set on factory stuff, order from one of the online dealers toyotapartssales.com is usually one of the best. If you are not set on getting from Toyota then follow above advice and the 3.0 kit from Sonoran steel basically gives you the factory 99 tall coils. You can also get some OME stuff for low cost as well.

I've done a few lift installs in my driveway, I've got all of the necessary tools.

My major problem right now is time. I'm literally working non-stop for the next 4 months. I'm really looking for a reputable shop that I can do drop off and pick up for the work on the shocks. Normally I would take the job on myself but it just doesn't seem feasible, and for some smaller jobs I might take you up on that. I'm glad there seems to be some help here in the SoCal area though. Any suggestions on shops?
