Suspension Upgrades...?

I just picked up this '95 SR5 Limited manual 4Runner with 190k miles on her. It's completely stock but in decent shape; the suspension is also stock and pretty busted. I'd like to take it to a nearby off road course but I'm not sure if the suspension can take it. I want to upgrade the suspension and lift it like 3 or 4 inches but my budget is pretty slim ($1200 at most). Let me know what you guys think.

Looks pretty good for a MI truck. I'd take it wheeling a few times just like it is so you can see what you really "need" to do to it.

its already busted up

if your going to upgrade the suspension then go ahead and take it off road. The suspension's already kinda busted up. Whats the worst that can happen, it gets more busted up? Be careful with ground clearance. Go slow and steady. You'll be fine.

Man, your truck looks great! I second the nod to Old Man Emu--affordable, top-quality, moderate-height lifts that are geared for the weight of the Runners (so they're not overly stiff like so many out there).

When I bought mine, it had stock speakers in it too. The surrounds were completely rotted out. Sounded like crap is an understatement. :happy:

Looks really good. I bought a stock 95 a couple months ago, added an OME lift kit and have not regretted it one bit. I also put on a new exhaust with doug thorly headers, but in my case there was an exhaust manifold leak and the muffler was about to go.

I'd drive it for a bit to see if you find anything more pressing that needs to be done, but definitely put the OME suspension on the list.

First Offroad Experience with my 4Runner

Hey guys:

So about a week ago we had decent weather (45 degrees) so I said f*&k it and went to Bundy Hill offroad park in Michigan. Like I said I was a bit worried about the suspension being stock and worn out but she actually did great! I was very surprised by how well it did on steep hills and deep mud. Overall it was a great experience. The suspension will need to be done eventually but it handled the terrain much better than i expected.

One thing i would like to do soon is add bigger more aggressive tires. Any idea what the biggest size is you can do without modifying the suspension?

This is normally where I would throw my favorite sawzall pick in, but that is a very clean truck. Read the lift thread above, it doesn't take much to fit 33s on a 2nd gen.

33x12.5 BFG KM1's with the OME 2-3 inch lift. No cutting required. I'm pointing out the lift because the OP asked about an upgrade.
