Suspension ?

So i just got new tires on my 97. upsized to 265/75/16's. Only cost $700 out the door. A guy I work with dropped $900 on 265/70/16's. Now I'm thinking about new shocks.

A local store, Deser Rat, has their own brand for sale. I've talked to a couple of people who swear that they're just as good as the Rancho RS9000's. One of them is willing to hook me up with them, says it'll cost $120 installed for 4.

Does anyone know anything/ have an opinion about Desert Rat brand shocks, or other local store brands for that matter. It's a more or less local store, only in Arizona and New Mexico.

Should I experiment and get them? Or should I drop the cash for bilsteins?

Any opinion would be belpful.

Thanks

Go for the Bilstiens. I had them on my Tundra and they were awesome. My bro-in-law just put a set on his 04 dodge 2500 cummins. and is also very happy.

Don't waste your time and/or money

I wouldn't suggest you waste your time and/or money on the lesser brands. For a little more (ok...a lot more), you get a great set of shocks that are very long lasting.

If not for the awesome XREAS on my '05, I would probably upgrade to Bilsteins immediately.

I've bought mine from wheelersoffroad.com in the past.

Keep in mind, it will always depend on your driving. I towed often and went onto the beaches often enough to warrant the better shocks. If all you do is road work with little or no towing, your standard shock may be all you need.

Good luck.

I just my 97 back in June and am finally upgrading. The tires I got with it left a LOT to be desired. Just got some new BFG's. I'm planning on a good amount of off-road use. Afterall, that's why I got a Toy. I'll be making a trip southern Colorado in October. That should show me how the stock suspension is. I don't really plan on towing too much, but do plan on making some trips down Baja and to the Cali coast.
