Honestly, you can go either way. It really depends on what you are doing with your rig.
Our Eibach stage 1 kit would get the job done for most and rides great.

I think it depends on how much you really want to get into it… maybe you want to hit the easy button, maybe what you are trying to accomplish isn’t available in a kit.
I took the piecing it together route. My front loading is pretty standard, but I wanted a larger diameter shock without the price tag of the typical 2.5 so I went with the 6112. The rears I have heavy load OME springs to deal with the added weight I typically carry but I kept the rear budget with a 5100 with the intention of upgrading later if I saw the need. The rest of it is pretty standard stuff. I added Wheelers super bumps front and rear to improve on the factory bump stops.
Some kits I was looking at were really just a collection of parts someone else put together. Some kits from people like ICON looked pretty good but ultimately decided it wasn’t for me.
I don’t really think there is a wrong answer, but the piecing it together route took more time to research, but I also got something that may have worked better for me than a turn-key solution.

I also wanted to maintain some factory rake, and didn’t want it to sit level unloaded. When its fully loaded the truck sits pretty level and that’s what I set out to do.

Think long and hard and be honest with yourself about what your needs are. It's possible to spend $10k+ on suspension without breaking a sweat, but all that expensive gear may not perform as well as a <$1000 set up depending on your use.
There will be a hundred fanboys who post up here about how their system is the best, but no one knows your needs better than you. Take it from me though so you don't end up buying twice, figure out your needs, and buy the best thing you can afford that meets those needs.

I was cheap and pieced mine together. I got a friend at a dealership to snag me some Bilstein 5100s + toytech superflex at their cost which set me back like $520. Then I had a red seal mechanic friend do the install for $400. So, all-in, I paid $920. I called around and the floating average to pay for the install was around $1800 + tax + shop fees + etc. I kept the stock springs up front.
I don't off road at all and just wanted the lift for look. I also wanted to do it half-assed properly so went with a suspension lift instead of a spacer lift. You can have a 1.5" lift for way, way cheaper if you go with spacers instead of a suspension lift.

You can kinda do both with Dobinsons. They have a ton of options and if you call them they'll put together a "kit" of everything you need, but customized out of all their options. I paid....I think $850? That's just parts - I installed it myself.
As others have said, you probably don't need a setup that costs multiple thousands of dollars. I love my $850 Dobinsons setup.

I pieced together a OME lift. I was trying to choose between the Bilsteins, Eibach and the OME kits and found and read a ton of threads. Then I found free shipping and started adding things to the cart. If you know what you want your end goal to be build it, if unsure buy a kit so you have everything needed. If you can wait Eibach is doing something with a new rear setup, might be worth waiting for. OME is a 3 inch lift and that is what I was looking for most seem to be under 3 inches. and I don't want an adjustable lift just 3 inches

Yeah, I did 2. Sometimes I wish I'd done 3 but sometimes not. Really I wish I'd done 3 but my whole family is short. Even with two I carry a little collapsible stool for my 4'10 mother (c'mon - she's 85! She used to be 5'1!) and my 5'0 mother in law. It's too high for my 5'2 father-in-law as well, but he refuses to use the stool and instead pulls himself up by the oh-shit handle.

There is nothing wrong with that and there is nothing wrong with little people. ( if we can call them that) . ARB has been in the 4x4 game for a long time, Eibach has been there just as long if not longer. I see eibach as more of a dunerunner and baja set up.

They are but they have a distributer here. The general manager is a member here. You can message him with what youre looking for and he can piece together a kit for you. Thats what i did for my 2 lift with kdss with certain weight / comfort expectations. Also just ordered a set of UCAs from them and boy are they fast at shipping!

I would check out the Eibach set. I’m going to have my kit installed by them in about two weeks (I live in SoCal). I was struggling trying to decide which kit to get. I really had to think long and hard on what I’m ACTUALLY going to be doing. I drive on paved roads 90-95%of the time. The rest is easy to moderate trails and camping. I went with Eibach because for the price, they can’t be beat. Also their customer service is excellent. Ryan was patient with me and answered all of my annoying questions. To top it off, he wasn’t pushy at all. I also read every post in the Eibach Pro Truck lift thread and everyone loves the kit.

I would look at the eibach and OME kits. They are really similar the OME is not adjustable the Eibach is and they have something in the works for rear springs I think. The only reason I went with OME is free shipping, and in some of the pics the Eibach lifts the front looked higher than the rear. It could have been the angle but once this OME suspension is done I will be going Eibach or toytec boss or Ultimate. But just starting out check out the Eibach thread. Here is 43 pages for your reading enjoyment. Ryan is great also he will answer you withing hours. I literally went though every lift thread I could find and read as much as I could since January when I bout the 4Runner, I finally bought the lift 2 days ago.
