SUV's & Trucks 1/2 off???

I have been looking at getting another car this year and I notice that Nissan is selling cars at crazy prices. The Pathfinder for $16,588, a 2wd with the 4.0 V6. The Xterra X 2wd, V6 for $12,760. The Frontier King Cab auto and V6 for $12,755. The Titan King Cab for 50% off at $13,284. Of course your getting 12 MPG. (Also, the Quest mini-van for $15,412.)

Anyway, I am slightly interested with the Pathfinder and Xterra. This is for 2008 models. They both have the 4.0 V6. Now don't get me wrong, I really want a new 4Runner, but for $12,760 for the Xteera, it is hard to overlook it. I did notice it has no side air bags or curtain air bags.

Why in the heck are they giving them away, or am I missing something???

Is that the actual "sale" price -- or is it a lease or some other type of gimmick? Beware of a balloon payment or large 'capitalized cost reduction', which is another five-dollar word that means "down payment" at the time of purchase.

Anyway, I would not want anything that gets 12 mpg. Sure, fuel prices have dropped significantly in the past two weeks - but I don't think that is going to a long-term trend.

It is not a lease and I only pay cash for my cars, so I am not too concerned about interest rates. The Titan gets 12 MPG but the Xteera gets 15 MPG, which admittedly is pretty bad. It does say 20 on the highway. I am sure they will have ad ons, like dealer prep. It is not just one place, it is all over the paper, some are slightly higher.

I mean, are they going out of business, or do there cars just suck? Also, the Pathfinder is somewhat close to the 4Runner, well kind of close.....

I also read on-line that they are selling their cars at other cities for 40 to 50% off. Go figure.

Having said all this, I did look at a Trooper in 2001 for much less than the 4Runner, but I decided on the 4Runner. I will try and take a look at these cheap ass cars in the next few days.
 
Out of curiousity, how much is a Pathfinder with a 5.6 V8?

Sounds like that Nissan dealer is having some serious issues moving their trucks/suvs and their trying to give them away.
 
I've been hearing radio ads for our local Nissan dealer running a BOGO offer. Buy a Quest or Frontier and get a Frontier for free. Even tell you to bring two drivers. :-)

I'm not remotely in the market, but I am curious about the details. There is no fast talking disclaimer like you normally hear with typcial lease deals and low loan rates. Maybe Nissan's that desperate to get rid of inventory

Peter you don't seem naive about this- but to best of my knowledge Nissan is not hurting that badly to sell cars at less than dealer cost.

Can you post up a link to the ad you have seen?

As Jeff Kleb noted this sounds like a balloon payment type of arrangement-some people think of it as a disguised lease. You are not keeping the vehicle paying that kind of price....

At the prices stated those would have to be used vehicles...the only vehicles that I see selling for 1/2 of MSRP is the big Dodge trucks out here in Denver. Brand new around $16K for a $30K list truck.

In the fine print is all the qualifiers-and there are a bunch. Not too many people meet all the conditions. Military/Veteran and recent college graduate. Finance with Chrysler Financial... credit score of XXX or better... you get the drift.

Your market could be crazier than here but I am a skeptic....no offense implied sir.

Oh man, I had to go look at my old newspapers. I looked and looked and I found it. This ad may change a few days after I post it.

This is the same ad I saw a week ago. The lower Pathfinder price was another place, but you get the idea, 45% off, 50% off. Actually the 50% off the Titan looks to be more than 50%. Oh yeah, please don't ask which place had the cheaper Pathfinder, I will find it, if you are REALLY ineterested.

Now, I have to be honsest, I have not even looked at the Nissan's yet. I still like the 4th gen 4Runner. I do plan on taking a look in the next few days.

PLEASE LOOK OVER THE AD, and tell what the gimmick is, if there is one.
 
The only one's I've seen here have been Dodge rams at 40% off sticker.

A rumor I heard also is that Nissan is going to build the cars for Chrysler and rebadge them as a Chrysler , since they cannot afford to build cars / truck anymore. Just what I read someplace . I think I read it in the last Truck Trend magazine. Or at least they are trying to finalize a deal .

The 4R's here are holding there own as I see at the dealerships , granted they dropped , but nowhere near like a domestic. Trailblazer , Equinox , Tahoe , Burb , Expedition , ect.... The guy down the road picked up a beautiful Trailblazer with low miles , excellent shape for a damn cheap price. The deals are out there for the easy pickin .
 
I recently stopped in my local ford dealership to look at an fx4 f150. I have had two in the past, and love the way they look and drive. I was really just playing around and seeing what kind of rebates would be available. The salesman didn't know off the top of his head, which was the first warning sign, so we went inside to the computer. 4500 rebate on the truck, but then he pulled up my 04 on kbb and it was just a hair over $6k! Needless to say, I did not buy a new truck! Does that sound right? $6000 for an 04 sr5 with 70k on the clock?

Yeah, I have notice the Trailblazers and the F150 pick up for next to nothing. I have also notice that a lot of friends are losing jobs, gas is down a bit, but still very high. I work for the State and they announced that our raise for next year is gone, starting September 16th, we have to have take off 1 day a month and not get paid, about a 5% reduction in pay. Our budget is now cut 6% and may get to 8 or 10% next year.

I have to upgrade an old car soon, 92 Accord and I might take this car buying a bit slow. It just seems to be somewhat uncertain times, at least for me it is.:confused:

Well the first thing I notice is they have but 2 of each vehicle at this tremendous savings.

Not exactly a huge clearance event with a whopping 10 or 12 vehicles.

So I will give them the benefit of the doubt and let's just say you could actually walk in there and get one of the 2 vehicles at the advertised price-there look to be a number of rebate related items in the fine print at the bottom of the ad.

I don't know anyone in the world that can read that stuff but maybe you Photo Shop guys could blow it up to be legible.

At best 10-12 new Nissan owners got a screaming deal on an 08 model -assuming they were recent college graduates, etc .....

In Denver they have those "We will sell one car at $75 to the person behind the wheel at 8am on the dot" sales.

Those are always exciting watching many folks walk away disappointed while one person thinks they have scored a great deal on a tow away....
 
So, you are worried just because they have one or two. Actually, I was concerned with the Xterra, I am guessing it is a stick shift for that price. As far as just one or two, there is nothing wrong looking at the vehicles then deciding that is what you want then wait for a deal. My 4Runner was an advertised special, just one. I went down a wrote a check and said, I'll take it. Boy, that really ticks them off.

Now, I did go out to a dealer today and looked at the vehicles. They were OK. Nothing that lights my fire. I didn't even test drive them. I would say the engine bay looks nice, lots of room to work in. The Pathfinder was rated at 15 & 22, while the smaller Xterra is rated at 15 & 20 miles per gallon. There was no gas cap lock, no drivers side door lock, no struts for the engine bay hood, no side air bags, no curtain air bags and the interiors look somewhat plain. I could not fit in any car with a sunroof, which is normal. I cannot fit in the 4Runner with a sunroof.

I will look at the brochures. but to be honest, I don't think these Nissan's are for me.
 
Yeah the prices of new SUVs are going down the toilet, should be a great time to buy if you really need an SUV. The problem of course is the trade in values of our current SUVs are also going down the toilet :(
 
Go to Kelly Blue Book and run your 4Runner through. I suggest sitting down first.

I blame my cell phone. I could have sworn my broker told me an automobile is the best investment you can make. Turns out he said worst.:D
 
Someone from work just came from Pensacola, Florida about 2 weeks ago and said a dealership there was offering a "Buy a Titan pick-up truck and get an Altima free" deal.

lol no joke!! my hand reflexively went to smack the dealer when he told me $6000! I had to stick my hands in my pocket so I wouldn't get in trouble! :)
 
If gas gets to $3/gallon, truck and SUV prices along with our resale values will go back up. Until then, any automobile is a bad investment, just that trucks and SUVs got the super short end.

I lived in Metro Atl for 10 years. No offense intended but are really considering something without VSC and side airbags? :wtf:

Driving from PDK to Gwinnett on an almost daily basis I would see a bad wreck & 2-3 fatal wrecks per month; those are just the ones I saw:awais:. For those who aren't familiar: Atlanta has 285, 75/85 and 400. If you are on one of those roads then drivers run floored to the scene of the next crash, regardless of weather.

You can't take the money with you and IMHO those technologies are must haves...

I feel so strongly about those technologies in that part of the world I would rather see you and your family in a new Ford Exploder with RSC, side-airbags and an extended warranty than an X-Terra without. I think X-Terra's are cool just in 2008 to 'pass' on the safety technology seems nutty.

Again, nothing personal just seeing the white or stained sheet in the wrecked car as traffic inched by left it's impression on me, correction, scared the crap out of me.
