Swapping 2011 front end to 2014?

I'd say time is a big consideration. Half way through it you'll realize it's a two week job and be regretting it. :eek:

This job calls for lots of bubble gum, duct tape and bailing wire.

Buy a new 2016 T4R TE and sell your prized 2011 Limited for a good price. These 4Runners hold their value well so you should get a good price for yours. The new vehicle will hold it's value for a long time too.

What I'd like to know is what is necessary to buy, what parts are not necessary.

it seems to be a lot of parts to do the swap but what parts can you get away with and without.

for sure in my case looking at the Limited, we need the Headlights, the grill, the bumper cover, fog lights, chrome pieces, what else? upper retainer? IDK the pics I see are black n white and have not dimensions. Part numbers just mean they are not the exact same thing but doesn't mean it won't work. Like headlights and speakers, different part numbers but they all fit the same and work the same.

Any advice?
 
buy everything you might possible need, then return what you don't use. like it has already been said, this is an intensive, inventive, laborious task that isn't easily broken down to "just what you can get away with". it would probably take 100 paragraphs to explain it all and i would suggest if you don't already have the experience and bodywork acumen needed to do this avoid it, unless you thrive on a frustrating challenge.
 
How about the tails?

Has anyone converted the 1st style 5th gen to the newer LED style tails on the 5th gen?
 
If Toyota's price is a concern then look at "National Auto Parts USA" for knockoff body parts that were about 1/4 of Toyota's price.
 
In this thread there is a lot of talk about how the headlight swap would cost a lot of money and time. But in reading up on this, it does not seem to be the case. It seems you buy 2 used 2014 headlights and a grill. That's it. You swap the bulbs over and buy an H11 connector (2) and you're set. There is one bracket that marshal said in the thread he had to fabricate, but it seems like an easy task. so maybe a few hundred in parts if you are buying an aftermarket bumper anyways.
