Swapping 4th gen transfer case

Hi, I have a 2006 limited v8 that will not go into 4 lo. I know how to shift it into neutral and have tried all of the suggestions such as the hammer tap, rolling back and forth, etc. tried resetting 4wd ecu under glove box, changed TC FLUID and so far, no luck. The center lock works pefectly. All I hear from the 4 lo is beeping. Don't hear the actuator motor running at all.

I have seen on this forum it can cost $2,500 to fix. Therefore, I am thinking of getting a good used TC with actuator and swapping it out. It would be cheaper (about $1,000) than replacing just the actuator. Thoughts?

Im in the same boat as well. Labor time is around 10hrs and I have no clue on how to remove TC on its own. My toyota tech buddy even took a crack at it but its stuck good.
Have you done any trail runs on ur truck? Im thinking maybe with a couple trail runs itll knock it loose and engage, atleast that's what I read on here before.

No off road other than crossing a few irrigation ditches on my 32 acres and driving in our recent snow and ice covered streets. Everything else works perfect on the vehicle.

There is a post here somewhere where someone did a swap in a couple of hours. He removed the bolts attaching the TC to the tranny. There are the front and rear drivelines and some miscellaneous items but it seemed rather "simple". I would plan to have my local mechanic who specializes in Toyotas do the swap.

There are five bolts on the TC CASE side and three from the transmission side. Maybe he missed the three coming through from tranny side.

We loosened the actuator, wiggled it and tapped it while cycling the switch but it would not shift. No we didnt touched the TC. If its simple like removing a transmission and re&re then I may try it later down the road.

You might want to check your actuator's 4lo motor and shaft before swapping the TC. No need to remove the TC, you just need to disconnect front and rear drive shafts and remove the rear of the TC so you can separate the actuator and check/free the seized 4lo motor.

My 4lo won't engage too and I tried all tricks mentioned here without success. Besides, my TC is leaking so I need to tear the TC apart anyways to replace front shaft flange seals, actuator seals and O-ring and hopefully fix my 4lo.

I'm going to have it done in a few days, I think I could do it myself but it's freezing cold here and I have no garage.

If it's beeping when you flip it in 4low you need to put the transmission in neutral. I have a 2003 v8 and it will just beep unless I put it in neutral then switch it into 4low
