swapping full-time 4wd into SR5/Trail?

And therein lies my dilemma......

I can't have the creature comforts of a LE with its full time 4WD drive train to go along with the KDSS suspension and TRD wheels/tires.
If I could, that would be my dream 4runner.

I dont see that there is anything to "sleep on". Im just asking for information on a particular swap and I was going to come to the conclusion as to whether or not it would be feasable for me with the information I recieved. And thus, which vehicle would then be better for me if the swap was not feasable (Trail Premium or Limited with smaller wheels/tires, etc.).

"Sleeping on it" does not (should not) become part of the equation until a person has all of the information at their disposal and is having a difficult time making a decision.

I posted with the specific intent of gathering that information. Which your post did not help with.

And because of this, it seemed like a sideways way of dismissing my OP by suggesting I am not thinking clearly. But no worries. Its "all good".

You really need to learn how to say "Thank you for trying to help" without making it sound like "F*** You."

As for gathering information to make a decision, you need to understand you will never have all the information you need to make a perfect decision. Look up the terms "satisficing" or "bounded rationality."

Would you like research about conditions under which rational decision making increases the likelihood of subsequent buyer's remorse? I can point you in the right direction.

GX460 is another option. It has fulltime 4WD and KDSS. Of course, it costs more, it is heavier, it has the barn door, and now it has that awful grill.

You can, it just costs a lot more than a 4Runner and it says Land Cruiser across the back :bounce:

Those two comments seems conflicting. The first "stated" you knew the differences among trim packages. The second "asked" the differences.

I guest it's all in the wording. Maybe the title should be "how much might it cost to make sr5/trail full time awd if it's doable".

Looks like your answer is the Limited and adding things you like from the Trail Premium.

I've only been on this board for a year and I can tell you this place has many helpful folks, and sometimes they throw a jab or two at ya. But in all good fun.

In the second post you quoted I was referring to all of the threads Ive made not just this one. Im not entirely sure the Limited is the choice for me, but I now realize it is not in my best interest to swap t-cases.

Front bumper, 17" wheels and tires, KDSS, far less chrome, and $37k vs $41k. There may be a few more but those are the only differences that I know of that I like more about the Trail Premium.

Are you completely unaware of the fact that some people drive in the rain in 2WD? "OMG I've never had part-time 4WD I wouldn't know how to drive!"

I mean, seriously, stop being a baby. You don't need AWD or fulltime 4WD to get around in the winter, I don't care where you live. I assume they plow the roads in New York every now and again, so you don't strictly even need 4WD at all (although it's obviously handy). Get some good winter tires and stop obsessing over stupid shit.

Well that escalated quickly..... OP the only thing I see in your posts that may need correcting is that in the conditions you speak of above (rain, semi plowed roads) its aOK to use the part time system in 4x4. I am always pulling the lever in even minor amounts of rain. You will learn quickly when you will create binding and how to avoid/ just pull it out of 4x4.

Then buy the trail, because full time 4wd is not as important as you think. Like some have said before, quality tires make the difference. My only suggestion after that is maybe think about getting a different vehicle because the 4runner doesn't seem to suite you.

I've been looking at cpo GX460's .......saw a new one in black today when I was out and about and actually didn't think it looked like a snobby soccer mom SUV.
No way would I pay for a brand new one ......the cpo'd ones I've seen that are 2-3 years old still go for $45-50k -- or more. Not surprisingly they hold their value quite well.
And I agree completely on the grill on the new 2015's -- I'm not a fan.
I also don't have a lexus dealership where I live -- it would be an hour's drive for routine servicing and that may be a deal breaker unless they are willing to drive here and pick up the car.

I didn't realize the gx460 had KDSS -- interesting.

Buying a Land Cruiser would be cheaper if you want full OEM form and function. If you want to keep it a 4runner then you need a whole team of us that are heavily weighted with EE's. Toyota ECU's are pretty much locked down as are all other auxiliary control units.

With that said I would like to have a few different options but am pretty sure the LC has them!

Plus it's way easier to do donuts and other fun stuff when nobody is around with 2wd.
