I'm planning on doing this tonight. One question: does the split in the bushing face the front of the vehicle or the rear? Is it the same for both front & back?

Looking forward to this mod. Just waiting on the parts. Should be a busy weekend for me this coming weekend. I'm gonna do a front wheel bearing and sway bar bushings f&r and end link bushings.

My Lessons-Learned:

• Sway-bar bushings are quick, doing the end-links is slow
• Be prepared to cut off the end-link bolts. Out of the 8, I had to cut off one.
• Clean the exposed threads of the end links with a steel brush
• Clean the 6mm end-link end. I used wd-40 just because it was handy.
• The deeza rear end-links don't have zerks, so I assume they don't need greasing. The front end-links *do* have zerks so make sure you fill them up. I'm not sure they come from the factory with grease.
• The rear deeza end-links come with rubber bushings. I ordered the Energy urethane end-link bushings and used those instead.
• As others have noted, it's a noticeable performance improvement. If you have X-REAS as I do, the benefit won't be as pronounced.

Got the sway bar bushings in what a world of difference they make as well it also took care of a clunk that I was getting going over bumps. The truck definitly corners better (flatter) now. Gonna try and get the end link bushings on tomorrow as long as there is no liquid sunshine. One of the best and cheapest mods you can make IMHO especially if your 4R is a little older.

I got my at Jegs and had them shipped to an "Canada Customs Sufferance Warehouse" called Seawings Express in Washington state then shipped over to their depot here at the Victoria International Aiport. I then had to go to customs at the airport and pay duties and taxes there. This way I can get free shipping when offered in the lower 48. It's a little bit of leg work but I still saved huge over buying the same stuff here in town. Local auto parts store wanted around $200CDN with duties and exchange I paid less than $150 CDN

addco sway bars

I know it is an old thread but I just discovered it while searching for ways of improving 4runner on-road handling. I am going to replace the bushings for sure but was wondering if anyone had replaced the sway bars as well? (for 4gen 4Runner)..
THey are not that extremely expensive.. Plus I hope the installation would not be very difficult comparing to the only bushing replacement.

Is there any way to tell if you're front sway bar bushings are worn? Mine is making a clunking noise when I go over hard bumps. Doesn't sound like metal on metal either & the truck steal feels relatively tight. I'll probably switch them anyway as mine is an 05 V8 w/ 86,000 miles.

Mine make a clunking noise when I don't grease them regularly. When I took my old ones out they were cracked and obviously very dry.

I just ordered front and rear sets from Energy and fronts 29mm fit perfect, but the rears 17mm are way too small! Everything I've seen online says the rear sway bar for an '05 sport 4wd is 17mm but mine is quite a bit bigger. Any help?

I can't find my notes, but I recall that the rear sway bar is about the same as the front (2004 V8 4x4 Sport).

I did the same thing and ordered a 17mm with the same results. Try the 21MM. I got the prothane kit #19-1164-BL. Comes with zerk fittings.

Yes sir ran into same problem on mine , got 1 on but the 1 on drivers side , lotta MF-ing , so no go , went on to summit & ordered 19mm should be here next cpl days will report !

reviving this one for a simple question (too cold to go outside right now and look on my runner). I read this entire thread and saw about larger washers being recommended, thank you.

I'd like to replace the factory bushing bracket bolts, Front and Rear.
Can anyone confirm the sway bar bushing bolt size is 8 x 1.25? same as the 3rd Gen writeup [MENTION=15785]J.A.[/MENTION] performed here: Toyota 4Runner Handling Modifications Addco Sway Roll Bars

What length are the stock bolts if they are 8 x 1.25 as well? I want to replace the oem bolts with some Gr8 or SS hardware while doing this mod once the weather warms up. Thank you.
