I live in Utah & do a lot of desert exploration, have used a '93 Ford Ranger 4x4 for about 10 years and would like to move to a 4-Runner.
The price range for used 4-Runners is pretty broad. I assume the mid-90s machines are due for new engines & transmissions and this is why they are in the $2000-3000 range(?).
Is it worth the extra money to get a '99-era machine? Or just plan on replacing/rebuidling a mid-90s model?
Any years to avoid? (Gen-3 seems like an overall well-regarded vintage.)
