Switch Lighting--help

I need some help by someone who knows their way around the 4th Gen electrical system.


I was messing around in my 4th Gen today and I shorted out the (backlit) switch-lights that are controled by the rheostat. These are the solid dark green and the green/white wires that lead into the back of the switches.

Damn if the second the wires crossed, all the led backlights in all the switches blanked out. The backlights in the radio are out but the LCD displays for the radio and AC/heater are still okay

All the switch functions still work. The speedometer array lights still function by using the rheostat (dimmer), but don't come on to "full bright" with the headlight in the "off" position anymore.



I figured at first that I blew a fuse. I checked every one that I thought could be in the system and they're all okay. I began to check all those that aren't in the lighting system and I'm still getting nothing--and there are many fuses in the system.

I'm hoping that I didn't blow out every single switch's led--that would be bad.



Please help or point me in the right direction

Update--I did more checking.

DRL are out. Tails are out with the headlights on but the brake lights work.

I checked the 2 fuses for the tails--both seem okay.

Back out to the garage...

If all the fuses are ok.. might be a multiplex unit. i know for 6th gen accords anyway, that if the guage cluster and the like go out and its not a fuse, the next thing to check is the multiplex unit.

unfortunately, i don't know where this would be..

Is the car is under bumper to bumper warranty?
Take for service if yes.

Did you check # 17 Dome fuse under the hood
and #3 Stop.
Inside the car panel fuse TAIL

Following the wiring, it all came back down to the tail fuse that looked okay.
I took a multi-meter to it and the contnuity test failed..AH-HA!

It looks fine and I can't even see a break, but it doesn't work so it must be the problem. I switched it out and everything seems to be working fine for right now. I feel like an idiot for not doing this as my first step.

Big sigh of relief; I can go to work tomorrow before the sun comes up.
